    Hello all,

I'm scheduled for orientation December 17th at the Indianapolis terminal. I've read all there is to read about Werner (I'm still going there despite it) and my concern is all the reports of students getting through their 300 hours of training and then not getting their own truck for quite some time. Some even reporting having to repeat their (300) hours of training after waiting (30) or more days for their own truck.

I'm wondering if the fact that I am likely to team with one of my classmates will help or hurt (or make no difference) as far as getting me in a truck sooner than later?

My hubby for some reason doesn't want to go back otr. This makes me sad, as I have not really fully got OTR out of my system but I also can't honestly do OTR myself. Unless someone teaches me to back better then I can there is NO WAY I can. Hubby fails on the teaching me to back thing, no matter how hard I nagged he never did it except 3 times. He always wanted to back, and that was a key issue with why we sucked as a team, cause he ALWAYS had to back.

i think Werner, as with most companies you need to run solo for the first 3 months if your a new driver out of school, you may want to call them and ask that question.
and it would be nice if you let others no here.
good luck with your plans with runnig with werner.

Na they will let them team right out of training.

Look at it this way they have two people that can run the loads fast for cheap vs a solo driver taking more time to do the same run and using more fuel for idleing.

You tell me which one werner would rather have a truck that is moving 24 hours a day or one that moves 11 - 14 hours a day.

Hmm, I thought I read you guys were thinking o/o? So you guys are not going back out at all or just not otr?

I will do just that and thanks...

Thanks, MGASSEL! I'm not teaming because I love the idea but rather a means to an end. I'm hoping it helps me get in a truck sooner (as you suggest it may) and helps me make a few extra $$ till I get my year+ in and can move on.

When you go to Indy do yourself a favor and bring some can goods and a fork and spoon. The rooms (almost all) have a refridge and microwaves in them. If you dont then you have to eat at Bennigans at the hotel or Popeys across the street. Both of which can get expensive and what ever you have left when your trainer hooks up with you just take out on the road. I was there for 5 days and got sick of eating snickers candy bars and drinking coke from the vending machines. When i was at the ramada in indy for werner I talked to a lot of trainees and guys that where there to test out. And this is what i can tell you from first hand knowledge. The dozen or so trainees I talked to said that after they got thier 300 hrs. Thier SDM told them that they had to do another 50 or 60 hrs. Why? because werner can. The guys waiting for thier truck were told "go out with a trainer for 400 a week or go home with no pay. If you go home and it last for 30 days it goes down as a voluntary quit so your kinda over a barrel.

And to answer your question about teaming. Yes it will help. Werner loves teams, thats why you and your trainer will team drive right out of orientation. He'll give you about 5 hours a day for 3 days (maybe) then its 100% team

Thank you very much for the info. I will be sure to bring some food with me. I'm going to orientation with limited funds so eating out will not be an option.

As far as getting send back out with a trainer after I complete my initial (300) hours I guess I'll just have to buck up and accept it. $400 is still more than $0 sitting at home I guess.

Do you know if there is internet access anywhere (where if so?) during orientation? Unfortunately I don't have a laptop yet but I do have an internet air card I will be bringing with me.

Any other tips would be much appreciated if you have time or can think of any more.
