I'm a new driver, and in looking through companies I'm considering working for, I avoided Werner for one reason or another, nothing really concrete, just a feeling.

Well.... I should just learn to trust my instincts. I have never been treated so poorly by a trucking company so far as I was today by Werner. I have put in applications for at least 20 companies who will hire new students out of school, and at least 5 who were not hiring, or I didn't have the experience for, etc. went the extra mile and CALLED me. They were very courteous, and said to apply again later with experience, or they would keep my name on file and get a hold of me at a later time.

However, today I have learned not all trucking companies are alike.

I filled out an application at noon today, and called later in the afternoon to check to see if the application made it to them, and if I could talk to someone about specifics of the company, benefits, pay, etc. I was asked for my name, ss#, and before I could even ask any questions, I was told very RUDELY "We're not interested in taking you on". I began to ask a question, and before I could even get the second word out, I was HUNG UP ON! I said.. WTF?? and called back, got a different recruiter, and explained I was no pleased with the last person I talked to, and that I had some questions about pay, benefits, etc. This second recruiter seemed annoyed that I would even call back, and wouldn't talk to me AT ALL until he got my name and SS# again! He pulled it up, and was even MORE rude! They gave me some bs company line about me not meeting the criteria. Ok fine, but you don't need to be RUDE! When I asked again about getting info about the company, he said to me in the most SMUG tone, "What do you want to know...." I could just SEE his eyes rolling on the other end of the line. I simply stated, "you know what, never mind, I'm sure I'll find a better company to drive for. And I hung up.

If THIS is the way the recruiters treat potential drivers, how would I expect dispatch to act? BETTER? I think NOT.

You know what, even if "I" don't meet your criteria, I'm in school, and I talk to other drivers, and I'm for #### sure not going to recommend Werner to my classmates, or anyone else I come in contact with. I won't recommend them to carry ANY freight that I might have a say in.

    Werner Recruiters.... no class...

It's a blessing in disguise, my friend. You REALLY didn't want to go to Werner. Just read the "Werner Trainer craps Himself" thread for further clarification.

  4. You being new to the "Trucking Experience" I don't know what you expect Werner to do? Did you expect the royal treatment? You know trumpet fanfare, ticker tape parade, or the chance to win A BRAND NEW CAR!!!! (that was a little sarcasm from the Price is Right). In all truthfulness, Werner probably has no less than 250 to 500 people a day that call in looking for work. We are still in a recession and work (even in trucking) is kind of hard to come by.

Just like Kid Cardiac said, count your blessings, because after I've seen some the crap that new students who drive for Werner do at the shipper's or receivers or even in the truck stop, it would blow your mind.

One story still sticks out about a Werner driver that happened to me about 4 months ago. I was backed in at a receiver, catching my paperwork up, and this KW W - 900 pulled in circled the parking lot and lined up on the blind side to back in the hole next to me. He got out and looked around on the ground until he found a piece of a broken pallet, stepped off 5 paces from the end of his trailer, laid it on the ground and proceeded to blind side it in. When he got close to my hood, I blew my horn at him, and pulled the Mic down and started to tell him he needed to get over about 3 more feet. After he heard my horn he pulled up and tried again. I'll speed this up a little, but the short end of the story is, after about 6 attempts, I got out and tried to help him back in. Once he got in the door, I asked him "what's the deal with the wood" his reply shocked me, and you could have knocked me over with a feather. "That's how they train us at orientation to blind side it in". I pointed out that there no less than a football field straight in front of the door's and why he "chose" to blindside it in is beyond me.

Oh and by the way, Me trying to get his attention on the radio wouldn't have done me any good at...He said it's against Werner's policy for students to carry radio's for the first 60 days they are hired.

So you see, you saved yourself from making a BIG mistake.

Good luck in whatever other company you choose to work for.

Yep you will find a couple of my other posts on here about recruiters. There are some rude, obnoxious, jack#$& recruiters in this industry, even when you do meet their qualifications.

But you are not a potential driver at Werner. They told you so.

I also suspect that if they cussed you out while welcoming you to the Werner family, you would not have cared if they where rude or not.

Here is the same post if they would of invited you to orientation. Man those Werner people are the bestest in the whole wide world. I hope to become a million miler at Werner and prove all the nay sayers about this company wrong.

By the way, I rolled my eyes after reading your post.:biggrin_255:

Hint. Take jobs close to home unless you only rent an apt and live alone then dump the apt, use your parents/friends address and go for it but do not waste all that money while training for a home you'll never see!

Werner? I would rather lick a hot iron, than have anything to do with them. believe me, the reason the people on the phone are rude, is because they have to talk to newbies all day. The reason they talk to newbies all day, is because anyone who has been around trucking more than a few months *KNOWS* to stay away from them.

Don't even give them the privilege of irritating you.

Okay, now we know that Werner recruiters suck. I wonder if there are any other carriers that have recruiters that suck or is it just a Werner phenomenon?:biggrin_25525:
