    Hi all,
I'm a recent truck driving school graduate and have received pre hires from Werner and Swift. In your opinion, which company is better and why?

Make sure you compare pay, freight volume, benefits, who has more run options for you, what your home time needs are. You might start off with low pay but you can work your way up as time goes on.

Considering both companies as dispassionately as I can (I've worked for both), and considering all the information I've heard about both companies in recent years....

I'd go with Swift. As a starter company for a rookie driver who already has his CDL, Swift seems to be offering a decent training program and relatively decent income opportunities during the first year of employment.

Swift may not be your final destination as an employer, but they will get your verifiable experience up to where it needs to be to start looking for better opportunities. Just remember to practice your logbook skills on actual paper logs so you remember how to use them. In my experience thus far, many smaller companies are not using E-Logs, and will not be using E-Logs for as long as they can get away with it. Also, smaller companies normally do not have the time or resources to teach drivers how to use paper logs.

By smaller companies, I'm of course refering to smaller 5-15 truck fleets, not the mid-range carriers like Millis Transfer or Western Express (both of which, I believe, are using E-Logs anyway).

Paper logging is still a necessary skill that every driver should have anyway, just in case the bloody E-Log system crashes for whatever reason.
