You're talking about the Paw Paw to Sprinkle Rd area and I would have to agree. In fact the whole stretch to I-69 is treacherous. The problem is people drive to darn fast through there. It's ridiculous in the winter, especially if there happens to be bands of lake effect snow coming down.
People get all comfortable driving 70+ mph on dry or wet pavement and within a matter of a half mile the road goes from dry/wet to a sheet of ice. They don't even realize it until some guy passing them taps his brakes or pulls in front of them and they tap their brakes and it's game over.
This past winter was brutal...we had several major pile-ups in that area. As I said I avoid I-94 and I have been questioned by my company many times about that. Currently my home is over by Gun Lake (I have a seasonal cottage up north that I plan to retire at) but even when I'm coming home from the west on 94 I prefer to take 196 north to 108th Ave and drive the county road over to M-40 to Allegan and then M-222 to Martin and home. It's a few more miles/time but it's a heck of a lot safer than 94 than sharing the road with all those idiots trying to race from Chicago to Detroit.
Westbound I-94 Michigan fatal semi accident, mile 103. today
