Hi my name is jeff, i recieved my CDL back in early march, had alot of trouble finding work in the trucking feild. I feel like ive applied at every major or small company i can find in any state. Finally it was a personal good word of mouth that even got me considered, im so happy an humble for the chance. I will be the first to say ive made some pretty dumn decesions. My quesion is as a new driver what should i expect an with expercience do those same open door apply for a ex-con.

not 100% sure on this but my guess would be after the 7 to 10 year period from the last felony some decent companies might accept you with the felony but i also could be dead wrong
j_mac84trucker Thanks this. -
It will be tough. There will probably be days you feel like your being taken advantage of,but don't let it get to you.Feel grateful the good Lord let you get another chance.Sort of like you, seven years ago I turned myself in( I was a meth user) and I could beat any test they put in front of me.(besides most of my employers would give a week to two week notice)One day I decided enough was enough and I took the urine test knowing I wouldn't pass( leaving my beat the test stuff in my pocket), and leaving it up to God, and low and behold,God set the plan in motion. After a year of not driving a truck and going through a D.O.T., A.S.A.P. program,I got my life back in order. Most companies didn't want to touch me,but I persisted and low and behold got myself back on track.
All you have to do, is bide your time, build your repoire, and create a good character ideology, and doors will open, and new opportunities will arise. You just have to wade through the bullsh!t to get there.
Good Luck to you, and remember, you are the person you are right now,not the person from the past.Oilpatchtrucker, trucker615, Giggles the Original and 6 others Thank this. -
The only one who knows you are an ex con is your employer. Shippers don't, recievers don't, other drivers don't. Take this opportunity, work hard, learn the business, dedicate yourself to becoming the best and safest driver you can be. Learn to be on time for all appointmets, learn to use your hours available to your advantage so you can run maximum miles, don't turn down any loads and before long prospective employers will not see an ex con driving a truck, what they will see is a professional driver who happens to be an ex con.
Congratulations on the new opportunity and best of luck in your endeavors.N00bLaLoosh, DoneYourWay, bullhaulerswife and 2 others Thank this. -

Jeff, congratulations on the job! Regardless if you have that felony or not over time you will see good and bad in every company in the industry big and small and all in between. That being said I would like to share with you the first thing I was taught when training for my cdl..........attitude will make or break you in this industry. There will be challenges but keep in mind that's the same wherever you work. I will tell you a good friend of mine worked for Western Express for 15 years and loved it. He only left because of an illness his wife had. So good luck and be safe.
