I spoke with the vice president of western express. He said all companies will be automatic in the next 5 years. The new International Evolution 2014 automatics get 7 miles per gallon where sticks get 6. So by doing this they will save millions in fuel every year.

Soooooooooo, does this mean WSX will not be a bottom feeder company anymore? (I don't think so). BESIDES fuel economy, etc. it is easier to get a driver with a pulse behind the wheel of an automatic than a 10 speed. This way WSX can troll even lower than the bottom of the barrel for steering wheel holders. They are nice, but a driver needs to know how to control a manual truck also.

    Have fun!

I will be glad when the new Allison TC-10 comes out. Move over manual here I come! Sticks are fun from time to time, but after previously driving buses with the Allison automatic, its a dream to drive.

Do you really think that manual transmissions are going to be obsolete in the next 5 years?

What makes you think the vp of western express knows anything about trucking?
I predict in 5 years all western express trucks will be driven by felons on parole with an electronic ankle bracelet that doubles as an elog device!
