My husband, who has 17 yrs of experience wanted to try a lease/purchase so he could be his own boss and set his own pace instead of working like a dog for 14 hrs a day for next to nothing like he was doing at his local job.

Since I doubt she will ever come back except to post about another company who did them wrong.

I'm using the above quote to show how bad thinking only leads to bad fruit. Just something to meditate on. In what world does having to pay a truck payment, fuel, and maintenance. Leads to being able to work less hours and more pay. Maybe I'm losing it. I just can't wrAp my finger around it. Can somebody tell me I'm not insane. Or point me in the direction of the nearest mental health facility.

I'm sort of wondering why many of you do a lease purchase or even lease onto a company. I have my own authority and you lease people pay the same amount as me for plates, insurance and some times even more. I can run as little as I want or as much as I want. I'm not limited to my companies freight. I am a total F-Off and run maybe 1,000 miles a week if that. I was running over 3,500 a week and amazed at how much I raked in.

My post was long for a reason... To be informative. I usually use paragraphs very well thank you, but it was late and I was frustrated. I am college educated and do well in researching just about everything, but the the posts that I find on here mostly just sound like people crying sour grapes with very little detail given. That's why I went into the explicit detail that made the post so long.

I have never posted on here before and was trying to be helpful to others who might be considering a lease purchase for the first time. My husband is also very intelligent and can run a business, when others hold up their end of the deal, that's why he considered l/p with 17 years experience. Hopefully someone who isn't an English professor on the side might benefit from my post, if not, well I tried.

We will do more research before he decides what his next step is, but, it's funny how every company has some people say they are fine, and others' swear they are terrible. Every company lies, especially the recruiters. So basically any research we would do, would probably be pointless anyway.

I'm gonna tell you right out, your husband can't be that bright... He couldn't find the driver's lounge, or ask about one himself..? And what exactly about Western Express inspired him to believe they were a good company to lease onto. What told him leasing was a good idea..? Also, as unfortunate as it was, not having your truck worked on a day or two before Christmas is not even close to a surprise! Some companies, he'd be lucky to get out before new years bringing the truck in the 23rd. Long shop waits are just part of OTR for the most part. It sounds like your husband has zero experience working OTR, or for an OTR carrier. Your epic story of uncaring mechanics is pretty much just industry norm. If you pester them every hour, they're just gonna shut down on you.

You are right that he doesn't have a ton of OTR experience, Mostly just local and regional. I guess we put too much faith in human decency that someone would realize that he wouldn't know there was a driver's lounge or where it would be located. Long shop waits are fine if you're a company driver getting paid to sit there. They aren't when they are supposed to work on l/p trucks first and just didn't want to get into a lengthy repair. It sounds like he would have been better off just fixing things himself, as he is fully capable of either knowing how to do now, or figuring out how to do for himself, faster than they were moving. Either way, the fact that Western Express, especially their night dispatch and mechanics, and many of the people who comment on here, are uncaring, cynical individuals who don't recognize an honest effort when they see it, seems obvious.

Some red flags here…."lease purchase"- "Western Express"- "Couldn't drive before leasing"- "Wanted to make more money"- "Wanted to be his own boss".

I'd say even the slow rookies catch on within 6 months that most companies out here are soulless, blood sucking idiots that could not care less about a driver after his butt is in their seat. ALWAYS expect the worst out here. Your story would almost inspire sympathy, IF your husband was right out of CDL school... With any amount of experience, it gets downgraded to comical and a slap to the forehead. Good luck in the future.

Please what ever you do, do not start by blaming anyone but your significant other. This is not meant to be critical but use everything that happened as a learning experience. Simply put he got taken, this is an industry norm as there are predators like WE that will take full advantage of someone like your husband. My suggestion is to move forward get on with a company that can offer a livable wage and after he gets established then take the jump to O/O not L/p... research and pin recruiters down when looking for the right fit, best of luck to you and your husband.

He needs to go back to local driving. If both of you are as educated as you say and you did your research and the best you came up with was western express then there is no way he is gonna make it in any lease purchase because it's obvious that he will be taken advantage of in any l/p he jumps into.
