Oh! About the simulator, it seems to me that this would be nice, but there's no getting past the real experience with the company trainer after the CDL training is completed. That is, I would like to toy around on the simulator, especially if it simulates ice and snow conditions, for example, but in reality I don't want to pay extra for it.

My boyfriend went to Western Pacific and it was good for him. We spent a lot of time looking into it and visited both Western and Western Pacific two or three times each before deciding on Western Pacific. All of his instructors were excellent and he had nothing but good things to say about his experience with them. The gals in the office were also great. He went to the Sacramento school.

This is just my opinion but - HMMMMMM -
I just finshed school and Western Pacific Truck School in Modesto, CA. I went to the DMV and passed the driving test 1st time...also passed the permit test and all endoresements first try too. I do not believe that I would have suceeded without the prep that they give you. The instructors are a bunch of older retired guys that are some of the wackiest people you would ever meet. I am getting ready to go work for Systems Transport out of Spokane, WA. If anyone has any questions concerning this school please ask and i will try to answer to the best of my knowledge.

i'm thinking about western pacific too but up here in WA, and funny you mentioned systems out of Spokane, i'm trying to get a hold of Curtis there to see if they're hiring now.
although you attended their school at a different location i'm sure their standards would be somewhat the same, why did you chose them as your school? and what do you think of system?
your feedback is appreciated. -
OK folks today was my orientation class. It was from 6-8. Very nice guy doing it. Pretty much went over what the class will entail. Next week we will be in the class room, & will be taking the permit test on Thursday. Then the next week we will be in the trucks.
I will be updating daily. Here at least. If I can get permission to video the school I will be posting that on youtube (ibasspro is my name on there).
So far I am very exited. Next Monday or Tues they will also get us with the job placement coordinator, & we are to fill out an application for our 1st choice of companies by then, or at least know for shure what kind of driving we are wanting to do. (Myself am hoping for regional with either Gordon (GTI, or DOT foods).
We also have homework over the weekend to read the 1st 3 chapters of the Class A Handbook (I have already done that, but will brush through it again).
Next update will be Monday, Happy Thanksgiving! -
1st day of classroom. We recovered everything we read this weekend. Chapters 1-3 in the cdl book. A lot of general knowledge. We also talked about some Hazmat, & tanker endorsements. The instructor is a nice guy, with 25 years otr. I am finding it hard to sit in class & pay attention, as what we are covering right now seems really common sence. I get exited when I see other students manuvering the trucks around the yard though, & it reminds me what I am there for.
We did a lot of log book stuff (bout 3 hours). For me it seems pretty easy, but we will see what it is like when I don't have an instructor holding my hand through it.
In the schools defence I have studied my CDL & watched a lot of videos on log books (thanks Eskimo Sean on youtube), as well as using a modified version of the when I worked for the USFS. -
Good luck with your school, I am going to Western truck School in sac. I took a look at WPTS but felt better at WTS. I studied the cdl manual and took the cdl and hazmat last monday and past!! so i only have to attend the DOT class the first week (hopefully start the 21st of dec) Lets compare notes? I also am looking at Gordon however #1 on my list is Watkins Shepard. Look forwaed to your post.

2nd day update. Today we went over combination, doubles & tripples, Hazmat, & tanker endorsements. Took sample tests for the DMV exam. We spent a lot of time on air brakes. I talked with the Placement lady today, & hopefully GTI is what I'll get. I am also filling out the ap for werner...but would really rather go with Gordon if I can land it.

3rd day at school we got Cynthia as our instructor (Bob got us started the 1st 2 days). Both are great folks. We got really in depth with the air brake systems, the we went out to a truck for some practicle. We then did the same with coupling & uncoupling. The the same with the air tests. When in the truck I was lucky enough to be the guy that actually did them (there were 3 of us in the truck). Though I didn't move the truck, actually doing the leakage tests was nerv racking compated to just talking about it sitting at the desk. I am more & more pleased about spending the $4000+ on this school. Tomarrow we take the permit test (class C, Class A, Air Brake, & combination), & I feel ready. We will be going over hazmat, as well as pret for Tankers, & boubles & tripples on Fri, which I will then take those after school on Fri.
...sorry if my spelling is bad...but I didn't update last night & wanted to before I go to class today, & my fingers are not working right yet.
