There were many companies in my time that had a very strict rule, no drilling into the dash to stack radios, no punching slots into the cabinets to bracket and strap TV's and no removing of anything already installed in your assigned tractor to repurpose the space to something you choose to do with it.
Quite a few companies imposed that rule as part of company policy with the punishment being two fold. First truck goes to dealership and is brought back to factory new condition eliminating the damage you did to the interior. Then you are billed that amount of replacements of the parts plus labor. Then you are dismissed. What is left after they take your check is billed to you. Failure to pay it puts into collections and eventual judgement in civil court. If the damages are high enough in some states they come for you with a warrant of attachment to your body and take you for it to answer that charge or plea from the company whose equiptment you damaged.
At the same token companies add certain things to tractors for your convenience, such as a pair of 12 volt bolts red and black for you to wire into. Sometimes a cabinet to keep your clothes hung under a space for a television next to the bunk. And the other side behind the drivers seat usually had a cooler that you bought and paid for. Anything else you put in there must not be bolted, attached or secured into the actual interior material itself whatever it maybe inside that tractor.
Fast forward many years, trucks began to be built with drivers in mind for everything. Radio goes here, speaker there, television there with it's built in antenna etc. Everything. So there was no longer any need to drill holes, slots or do damage to interior anywhere.
This did not apply to lease or owner operators who were allowed to do any customizing or whatever they wanted to the inside or outside of the trucks. -
