Lol, sorry, I meant tarp. I didn't check my spelling. I assume you figured out what I meant tho.

I carry some 20x15 plastic tarps. If it’s something that really needs protected and I know I’m going through some weather I’ll lay those down first. They were cheap and have lasted about 3 years no problem. I haven’t fixed any of my tarps in 3 years. There’s a few small holes but most things it doesn’t mater anyway in my opinion.

Company buys it in individual rolls to keep as backup however there are a few places we load at that supply it. Company wants us bring that stuff back for reuse. So there is always some around.

There are many reason to tarp different loads besides keeping them dry. To keep road grime and salt off the product. To keep labels and shrink wrap intact. To prevent people from seeing what you’re hauling. I used to work at a place to sold Unilock paving stones. Unilock would give you specific areas you were allowed to sell your product. They could pull your distribution privileges if you were caught selling outside your assigned area. We would tarp loads going to long time customer that were outside our area so we wouldn’t get caught.

The biggest reason, and only one that matters, is the customer is paying you to do it.

Speak for yourself. That's not true for me, and others like me, that haul loadboard freight via Brokers. We have zero idea what's really getting paid by their customer as it's between them. I have rate cons sitting in front of me that say load needs to be tarped. However, after talking with the shipper and the receiver they made it very clear the commodity does NOT have to be tarped. Many Brokers give tarp service away for free to garner more freight at the Carrier's expense. I've seen this many times. If you're contracted direct with the customer and the fees and services are spelled out in black and white then I would agree. Otherwise, no way you can say that with any certainty.

So you took a load for a certain rate knowing it has to be tarped. It says it right on the rate conformation that you signed.

But you’re not paid to tarp that load? See the disconnect here?

When the Shipper and the Receiver (one of which is the paying customer) claims I do not have to tarp then the Broker is committing theft of service because they are claiming it's a customer requirement. How long have you had your authority?

Man it gets better and better. Theft of services? After you sign a contract to do a job and they pay you to do that job?

Who said anything about calling the Authorities?

So you you're NOT a Carrier? You're just a Driver? That's what I thought. When you're actually running a business come back and tell me about what services you're willing to have stolen from you. I'll be placing you on ignore now. Have fun slumping them 8 footers for nothing, Driver.

Well that escalated quickly. Still laughing about signing a contract for a tarp load and then complaning about having to tarp.
