You can't say government isn't playing any role in this what's happening around us. They are playing it BIG time.
And yes, it affects truckers.
I do like your positive approach though. People who believe do make it happen in difficult times too.
But I wouldn't rush to conclusions. We all fail in different parts of life. Nobody wins all the time. It's a learning curve. We might all have been there at least once.
With only one man operator many things can go wrong. And it might not be even his smarts or ability. Things are out of our control at times. We can't control everything.
And some do come out of the pit too. And they might come out stronger. If you are doing great, that is really really great!
This year isn't best for me. But I am surviving. Things aren't as nice when you have your kid living in a dorm far away from home. Universities raised their fees. So, ones not supporting kids in college or having outrageous medical bills for example might be doing just all right.
We don't know everyone's circumstances. Maybe you paid everything off, even your mortgage. Some might decide to wait it out than run for cheap. Whatever it is, I wouldn't put down or put blame on others not doing as great.
And why so many immigrants get into it? Because they don't know English well. You can't do much without the language. But you can drive. Now, with the schools being mandatory it will be harder. But I'm sure money will be given from one hand to another to pass those schools without even attending much of the school classes.
What’s a normal weekly gross nowadays (no lunch counter bs)

On another hand, many who come here to work probably left poverty. They are used to making cuts to living expenses. People living here aren't used to it. They love to live well. So, that's why often it is a big heartbreak. We are living too comfortably, so we expect being comfortable...

The new carrier I'm leased onto is around $4500/week and in these times up north in Canada that isn't bad for Dry van. Had to make sure they had dedicated freight customers which makes a huge difference when comparing to a Loadboard carrier.
