Im looking at a job that pays hourly for regional work. Since I’m new at driving I’ve only heard about getting paid by the mile.
What’s better hourly rate or by mile

Hourly is the way to go. When paid by the mile, you spend a lot of time in or around the truck without the wheels moving.

Yes, hourly is almost the same as guaranteed pay. Stuck at a dock, traffic, construction, breakdown, etc. still getting paid. Cents per mile: Hours at a dock, you may or may not get detention. Also CPM, you won t get paid until load is delivered and company has received your BOL s

The definitive answer is: "It depends."
Hourly pay for regional work is not common. Check the details. You will be paid hourly for what hours? Just those driving? All hours required to do the job? Will you be paid for all hours logged "on duty" or what?
Generally, hourly means you get paid for all the time from punch-in to punch-out. Sometimes it is all logged on duty hours from your coloring book. I could see a company trying to pay hourly for your driving time and expecting you to do the rest off the clock. It would not be legal, but I could see it happening. Ask the relevant questions of your prospective employer before you say "yes".
Generally, hourly is better because you have an easy metric for how much you are being compensated for a day's labor. Mileage pay is more complicated to make that basic calculation from. But it still boils down to: How much is a day of your labor worth to you?SingingWolf Thanks this. -
My hourly wage for the last 64 hours was $74/hr.

It involves regional tanker work. I’m assuming there will be work involved with the tank itself.
