Participation trophies have been around quite a bit longer than Facebook. My son is 37 years old, and they were starting that crap when he was still in grade school! Look up the term: "Outcome based Education", one of the Pervert in Chief, Slick Willie's brainchild's!

Here's a thought on this, as someone who does have a faster company truck (81mph), learn to pay attention, drop your phone, keep your eyes open, if you run the same roads all the time, learn to watch for the cops, and learn what "grace" they will give you, learn where they like to hide, learn where nature likes to hide, learn to recognize what the backend of a cop car looks like at day or night. See the racetrack taillights of a Charger/Durango at night, SLOW DOWN until you confirm it's not a cop, during the day learn to look for concealed antenna housings (although some of the new Durango PPV have zero external antenna other than Sirius). Learn to tell the difference between a soccer moms Tahoe vs a Trooper Tahoe, learn the difference between a civilian Explorer and an unmarked PPV Explorer, and the states that run F-150, Ram's and Silverado's as either a trooper or a sheriff, well, in some cases, good luck, in other cases, you'll get lucky. Oh, and and on those backroads, that's some Sheriff or Locals home turf, he knows the hidey holes, and a lot of them now use "ghost" decals to help blend in. Regardless of the road, if you're speeding and you haven't seen a cop in a long time, SLOW DOWN, because that simply means they've got a good hidey hole and a ticket with your name on it.

On the interstate, they'll typically give you 5 over, depending on the state and the interstate stretch. Texas was the first state to raise to 80 mph, but when they did, they went from a 5 mph grace to a 2 mph grace (speedo correction), guess what, traffic stops went up. Wyoming is the same way, 80 mph on 80/25/90, they'll give you 82 or 83, but at 85 you're probably getting pulled over. Colorado will never raise the limit, but CSP will admit that the average speed on I-76 NE of Ft. Morgan is 82 mph, and 82 mph is the max they will let you run before the lights start flashing, a few of those troopers will stop you at 80 mph in a big truck. Now, New Mexico is a whole different story, 75 mph speed limit, enforcement begins around 90 mph, 80 mph if the trooper is bored, 90 mph if he's not.

There are parts of Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas where the troopers will give you 3 mph, and there are parts where they will give you 5 mph, that speed limit sign in some po-dunk little town, yeah, go 1 mph less than what it says because Barney's radar gun probably isn't calibrated correctly or "your speedo is off driver".

Also, on most of those backroads, the cops aren't the hazard, nature is. Running CO 159 from San Luis to Taos the other morning, highway signs say "OPEN RANGE" with a picture of a cow, 100 yds down the road, next sign says "OPEN RANGE" with the picture of a horse, both say next 19 miles, not 5 miles down the road there's 20 horses on both shoulders munching on grass and a couple in the middle of the road, and they flat out didn't give a #### about my airhorn. I slowed to a crawl and crept through them, they moved, slowly. Just before the NM state line, there's a heard of elk standing in the field watching traffic go by.

Also, learn to use "bait", sometimes that "bait" might be stupider than you, and sometimes that "bait" might be smarter (radar/laser detector) than you, and keeps both of you out of trouble. Personally, on 2 lanes, I'm a big fan of "bait".

You’re right some states seem to give a little leeway with the speed limit. That would make a good thread..Which states give the most and least leeway with the speed limit. But some holier than thou super trucker type would ruin it by saying, I’m just so perfect I’ve never sped in my life I’m perfect in every way, now excuse me while I go urinate on the pavement.

Rush hour in PA/NJ on I-80 as long as your going with the flow of traffic and not weaving in and out of traffic you can roll 10-12 over and they won't bat an eye.

Now mid day you best behave yourself and not go over 73 in a 65.

Pa i almost never see cops until it starts getting light out. Ny state line all the way down to the end of 380 I very rarely see any
