I think those are a weep hole for the liner seals. Bet there's 6 of them along the block.
Rideandrepair, Last Call, ducnut and 4 others Thank this. -
Ok. I assume coolant isn’t supposed to come out of there?
Rideandrepair and BoxCarKidd Thank this. -
Yes there is 6 of them
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
No it should not. Hopefully your lower block is not eat up and that is the reason the o-rings are not sealing good. The shop that is doing your overhaul needs to take a really good look at your block.
Rideandrepair, Oxbow, ducnut and 1 other person Thank this. -
This page has a really good explanation of top and bottom counter bores. Reviving Your Older Engine!
RubyEagle and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Yeah, I plan on doing everything I can and reading up(been doing it) on everything I can get done.
Problem just started recently in the past 2 weeks. I noticed I had to add coolant. Not much but just enough....... Gonna start tearing it down next Friday(Not me, my mechanic)
Rideandrepair and Oxbow Thank this. -
I wonder if anyone makes a “crevice seal” liner for a Detroit. IDP makes them for Caterpillars. Basically it’s a crutch for questionable lower counterbores.
wore out, Rideandrepair and Oxbow Thank this. -
Just make sure he has the tools or can get someone to do a proper check and counter bore before you let him start tearing down.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Oh yea, Clarke Power is gonna do counter bores….
Rideandrepair Thanks this.
