Out 10.5 days... home 3.5 days.

    Do it again.

Works for me. Like a little vacay every other week with full paychecks.
Seldom take a week off.. don't need it.

Home weekends for me. Sometimes it’s Friday/Saturday and sometimes it’s Saturday/Sunday. It varies a little here or there.

what kind of money do you guys make to be away from home that much. no amount of money to would be enough for me to be gone that much. i am home daily, my company has transport loads with guys that are out a few days at a time, but most of those guys are home at least several times per week. there are farm pick-up and transport guys, i do farm pickup (always home daily).... some transport loads go as far as NY to Wisconsin.

I’ll make about 91k this year, not even trying too hard. Just got another raise. Conceivably could make more if I didn’t take 5 days off a month.

I stayed 6 months down on 10 running pipe one way and chain/cable back the other one winter. It was alot of rain but no worries. I finally get the truck to indiana two days of 10 people working in it to fix 50 some odd problems and a month in Maryland to settle and decompress.

That was a memorable year. The more the merrier.

    HOWEVER.

I am not like most drivers today. Used to be you ran late Feb all the way to Oct making money and alot of it then go home and hibernate and eat all winter before going out again. Home is where I am literally. Even if it happens to be say... Omaha for a few days. For better or worse.

    I do have two rules.

Day one Mr Groucy grumpy out of sorts leave me alone. Save the welcome until I come out of that room feeling more or less human again. Coming out of Chiraq market on the loop and going home to a no threat family is mind bending at best. I need a little time to swap out the personalities as it were.

And the last 30 hours prior to expecting a pick up that dispatcher be calling. Technically Im not working yet. But he's a calling already. Im late already.

I don't know how you guys do it. I am very satisfied with my job and I'm making about 54k. I work 8-9 hour days. Start work at 6am done by 3pm.... yesterday I did it in under 8 hours and it is a $200 day.

My ability to go home at the end of the day is mandatory for me, especially in the summer. Yesterday I came home finished mowing the lawn, and took my 7 year old in the pool.

I own my own home and had it long before I had a CDL. I have a pool, a yard, older vehicles that need maintenance.... thanks including a Camaro z28 that I love to drive, that is my unwinding from my day at work, the ride home.

If I didn't go home everyday missing my two sons would be too much to bear, my lawn would never get mowed, the pool would be a green swamp, and my 7 year old would never get to go swimming. It's always been my thing, taking him in the pool. The vehicles would fall apart, the house would fall apart. Not to mention my wife also works full time and has a state pension and health insurance, I am with the boys in the afternoon while she works.

Besides how could I leave him for any length of time?

It's commendable what you guys do, but I could never do it. I would never be happy with it.

I had some of these things before I got my CDL... I was married before I got my CDL, I had the house, and I had Matthew. Noah was born after I got my CDL. I was 35 years old when I got my license. Had I got my license at a younger age, my life likely would have been very different.
