Just a new driver going too fast. He had it 9th or even 10th probably. I'd be curious to see what gear the truck was in when they found it. You can go down without a jake, you need to just go slow, low gear, once its rolling and your in the wrong gear so you keep getting way up over speed, its over. Especially for a new driver cause he's gonna panic and not be able to get it into a lower gear, speed shift.

I am however, impressed as can be he had the presence of mind to jump.

Probably wasn't even in gear. I could see a new driver trying to shift downhill and missing it. He panics and jumps.

May be the trainer not training right for sure. But there are several threads on here of newbs whining they don't even need to be trained. Guess maybe this is an example of why they certainly do need some time with a good trainer.

Do. NOT. dare. To. say. Newbies whining they do not need to be trained.

If any of my newbies whined like that they would be shipped STRAIGHT home with the recommendation not to allow them any further journey into the world of Professional CDL trucking until they have literally grown up a few more years enough to recieve and keep instruction. Something that the Parents should have taught them. Or have the whiner join the US Marine Corps. They will break that whining soon enough.

    No. Whining.

Well there's a whole chapter unto itself. Dude gets hired in June, goes with trainer for 3 weeks, even 4, maybe goes second seat for another 3 or 4 weeks. Gets his own truck.
    Along comes November.

I remember the first mountains I drove thru. I think it was 64 out east somewhere, at night in the rain. At the top was a toll booth. I was sure glad to see it.
I gave those grades alot of respect as I dint want to end up on the side of a cliff lol
