Getting on with a small company that cares about there drivers take work and commitment.. yes, it is much easier and faster to get on with a big training company, hope for the best and hope to survive long enough with a clean enough record to jump to a bit better company... But, here is the difference..

I just got on finally with a small family company and was set to go out with a very experienced driver and O/O this week.. Wed.. tomorrow..
Yesterday I took my dad to the doctor.. which lead to him having to have a procedure and a night in the hospital.. after hours at the hoslital and the realization that now was not a good time for me to go over the road for a couple weeks.. so, I called the O/O and told him what was going on.. he was awesome.. told me to be there for my dad and be would call me tomorrow...

Well, today he called.. asked how my dad was doing.. and then told me.. here is what we will do.. we will run some short runs so you can be home each night with your dad, then we will do some longer over night runs and just keep doing what we can so you can be home with your dad until we can get you on the road... We are a family company and we know these things happen and we know how to work around it..

Wow.. I can not Express how grateful and appreciative and am for their support and help.. it makes me want to work hard and right for them..

So, I leave tonigbt for a quick turn around run..

There are good companies and people out there and it is worth the extra time and work to get on with them.. cause truly I can not see a big training company working around my family needs right from the start..

I will not forget their kindness and will work hard for them.. o

    Awesome!
Companies with ppl/owners like that are a valued gem, especially in this industry. That's the type of company I'm striving for.
My present one is virtually the opposite, and it does effect ones "give them all you got" drive.
Hope you have a lifelong and mutually satisfying place with them.

I just went from a company that had 600 drivers to one that has 7. It's the best move I've ever made.

Thank you.. I feel very fortunate for this opportunity.. it took a lot of work and patience.. after all, I got my CDL A at the end of 2009.. I went out pulling flatbed.. but, that turned out not to be the opportunity or company I wanted.. when I came off the road I got a non driving job cause I needed a good and solid pay check and I took time to really think and plan how I would get a solid start as a truck driver.. I wanted quality training.. I wanted to be trained by an experienced driver and I wanted to get on with a good small comp

It took a couple of years.. but, only in the last few months was I really really diligent in my search.. I got turned away a lot, and I didn't take a few offers.. then, this one came along.. it took just about a months to get it.. but, I am so glad I did..

A little kindness and sincere respect go a long way. In any vocation. I am happy for you.

Worked for a company like that for over 30 years...although they were not really a small one they were just a good one. Glad it worked out well for you , BTW how is your Dad?

Thank you.. my Dad is doing good.. he is one strong man.. and a stubburn one too.. he had to have a procedure for his prostate.. no cancer thank goodness.. but, he did have to have what I can only imagine is a very unpleasant procedure..it went well and he is back home healing.. won't take pain meds cause he never has liked them.. bummed that he won't be able to bowl for a few weeks... He is a big big Boston Red Sox fan.. so, I hope they win tonight...

This is a small company based out of IA.. only 8 to 10 drivers.. and I am the only trainee/ New driver.. I will be out with an O/O who has 20+ years of driving and has been with this company for about 10 years... I feel really comfortable and confident that I will be trained well.. the goal is to get me ready to go solo... But, there is no set time frame.. if it takes me only a month then they will assign me a truck.. if it takes me three months they will train me three months.. they won't put me in a truck solo till they are confident in me.. whi h makes sense... They haven't had any accidents and don't want any.. so I am glad about that..

It is paper logs.. and we do our own routing.. so, I have more to learn then just driving.. and he will show me how to do and fix somethings on the truck and reefer.. not a complete rebuild or overhaul.. but some important basics that it is good for a driver to be able to do rather than waiting around for a shop to do it..
