There are drive shaft disconnect kits that allow a RWD auto trans vehicle to be flat towed and a CV joint disconnect that allows FWD automatics to be flat towed without any damage to the transmission. From what I know most manual transmission vehicles can be flat towed with no problems whatsoever.
what a crock.....truck movers is so full of crap

First to Go Postal, I was suggesting if things didn't work out for you with TM, you might look into an outfit that delivers motor homes. What better way to travel and explore than in a brand new rv. You can't camp with it, but you can sleep in them.
To bryleigh807: your right if your talking conventional Bobtail maybe 10 or 11. What about one of those cab and chassis with 8 to 10 axles. The ones they outfit with cranes. Then even less that three. There are all kinds of trucks you have to think a little further out of the box.Go Postal Thanks this. -
Thanks Will stay tuned. Past medical and have card in. Hand.

There are way too many variables for the typical drive away contractor to point at any one thing.
I will not knowingly take any job that nets less than 50 cpm.
Here is a constant. There is some real ####ery going on inside the management of one of the major driveaways. They will find a way to try and steal money from you.
So you have to watch your pay vouchers.
I think, eventually, they will collapse or be shut down by one of the govt agencies.
In the mean time, you still can make a living if you avoid common rookie mistakes and expensive road hazard damage.
The problem is, you cannot avoid the rookie stage and road hazards are eventually unavoidable.Shep Shiloh Thanks this. -
Orientation (Three days in Indiana) as soon as the "woman" gets her DOT phys/MVR cards and I get my MVR/PSP cards (for my CDL-A) and our "mule"(Dodge dually) for campers, and towed shuttle vehicle for motorhomes
, set up.
Can tell in recruiter AND dispatcher phone call conversations, (T/M's dispatchers also recruit) that some other drive away/tow away company's phone, people skills, and policies (not promises and candy coating) are favorable.
To be fair, recruiter Kim F. was/is very cool to talk to, and appreciate her years of experience with other companies and suggest she moves on. (I know she's fallowing this thread:smt002)
32 years as a Postal mechanic and transport driver who visited every post office with vehicles, in a region we serviced, and 1 year being a bulk mail processing supervisor with over 120 clerks and mail handlers to make contactor truck dispatch times for the next day's "mailman", have my "attitude" and "don't go there" radar well........ tuned.
Thanks all and see y'all out there.

My buddy that is still a deck driver there moves RV's in his spare time out of Elkhart, IN back to Texas. Good luck with the campers and RV's. I think you'like it better especially if you have something to back haul. Keep me posted, I've been interested in doing that myself.

rbd171 are you busy a lot these days? do you recommend TM on a part time basis, like 3-4 loads a month?

Can someone explain to me what are drive away companies ? From what i read in this thread, is it delivering Tractors (semi trucks) and anything that can be driven legally on the road like buses, campers, drillers etc individually by physically driving them there ?
What do you mean by decked ?
Why do you get filthy as some have mentioned?
Is this also where you see like 2 or 3 tractors attached to each other ? Is that called "Piggybacking"?
Can you get insurance that just covers the damages the damage some have listed like cracked and chipped windshields, blowouts and damaged rims etc. ?
1099 makes you a contractor -so i assume some are willing to take the risk and be liable ?
Do some of these companies hire company drivers ?
Seems to me if i am understanding this somewhat, and all the drivers are 1099 or subcontractors they are paying the insurance, fuel, hotels, food, lodging, way to or from (Other means of transportation) the job - what is the company they are contracted to doing for them ?
I just am just curious as to what the job is? -
Yes Driveaway is driving the actual load to the customer.
"Decking" is the same as "piggy backing"."Hang - Man" Thanks this. -
RE: The questions from "Hang Man" Does anyone have answers to the rest of the questions? Are there any companies that hire? If not, is insurance available to cover damages to trucks? Why do people get so filthy? And what does the company do for the drivers? I think the policies I've read about are just insane...
