I'm by no means taking what the guy said as gospel.I posted this thread to get feedback because i was irritated and didnt think it sounded like an accurate opinion.
I've talked to someone at the des plaines terminal who told me to come in and apply once I actually have my cdl. I test 2 weeks from today. After I test,if all goes as it should, Ill head over to OD with my resume, driving record, refrences and all that and apply for a job. I'm confident I have a chance.
Bottom line , this post came off as way more whiney than I intended, its embarassing. I'll update my thread once I test for my CDL and try to Apply at OD.
What a flippin let down, is it really about who you know????

No need to be too embarrassed over it. Things happen, and there are very few of us who don't on occasion post something that doesn't come across the way we intended for it to. . .

Amen, Don! I learned to type in my teens (when there were typing classes on old Royal manuals!), and to this day, I can put down 50 to 60 wpm pretty regularly.
Unfortunately, at my age, my brain only works at 5 to 10, so....viola'! Posts I wish I didn't post!
Xile, Big Don, Nightwind8830 and 2 others Thank this. -
Not saying the school you went to does this, but some trucking schools, get paid from OTR companies to send them their graduateshalfburn, Criminey Jade and Nightwind8830 Thank this.

my school recommends local smaller european companies,at least the office women do when i talk to them. They have advertisements for the mega carriers hung up everywhere otherwise. luckily,in one of my first few posts, someone was kind enough to tell me how to look up CSA scores and they helped me avoid applying at an unsafe company which had been recommended to me by the school. not sure if my school gets paid when people go to one of the carriers
if I had to choose a company based soley on recruiters and what the school recommends, though, I'd be phuqed. the only useful advice ,job wise, that i've been given at school is from my current driving instructer who has 2 daughters who are my age so he trys to give me good advice about where to start and what starting pay should be around and what to expect when starting out....yeah most everyone there is helpful and friendly, but some people dont like to see a young woman driving. this one european guy in the yard today kept scowling,just...scowling at me.eventually he came up to me and was like "You like to drive,eh?" I dont think I ever saw someone scowl so much, lol. I just told him "yeah,i'm having fun." he shook his head and walked off. my instructer saw it happen, shook his head and looked entertained, lol. -
WHAT?????? YOU ARE A FEMALE?????? AND YOU WANT TO DRIVE A BIG TRUCK???????
OMG WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TOO, ANYWAY????
While there certainly are many more of us guys driving, than there are gals, there are plenty of gals out there. Don't let the creeps uh, creep you out!KF7WTV and Nightwind8830 Thank this. -
Did you ever talk to Conway about linehaul or Schneider about tanker? Good money in both.
Nightwind8830 Thanks this. -
Since your a woman the LTL companies will be more willing to work with you I think. I've been LTL for 3 years and only seen two woman drivers
Nightwind8830 Thanks this. -
