Dumb drivers are a dime a dozen. Good drivers know what they're worth and won't take bottom feeder pay.

Calm down, if you want to hire and employ someone than that makes you an employer and them the employee.
You don’t want to get caught by the IRS doing another bogus 1099 trucking scam.
Since you own one truck you could ask you tax people if this 1099 thing is legit or if you’re asking for major trouble.

Personally, I don't find $1200 per week horrible. I would guess your paying him/her around 44 cpm. Thats in line with most companies woth few exceptions. You won't get rich off 1200 per week, true enough, but depending on where the driver lives, he/she can make a living. I live in Memphis, TN and 1200 per week can go a long way there. We all would like to get paid more, but how someone utilizes their money plays a hand in their wealth.

Chill man. It's hard to answer your question. Don't know what they pay in Florida but in Chicagoland you would have hard time finding a driver for this kind of money.
Going rate for 1099 driver in Chicagoland right now is 50-65 CPM with home every weekend and they will take anybody even without experience and endorsements.
Company I drive for is looking for drivers 53-57 CPM depending on experience and lane and $30 EVERY stop (1099 or W2 your choice).

Depends on what the rate is. 30% of $1000 for 400 miles is liveable. Conversely 30% of $1000 for a 800 miles is crap. Find out what average run distance is, and average it out.

Personally I think all 1099 is questionable at best and wouldn't touch any such thing unless I was offered a contract stating annual salary was $200,000 paid up front

Guy says runs vary but usually short trips can be out, unload, back in 6-8 hrs...saying thou or better a week plus he'll cover my cell plus my buddy works for them and gets killer bonuses,he leaves early Monday morning and usually home late Thursday or early Friday morning and occasionally home over night during the week....gotta love those 3 day weekends lol
