Hmm...i had tried mechanic training for about a year , same as plumbing and electrical apprenticing , and wasn't able to keep up on bills though the training was great ( takes a while to be a journeyman ) , anyways , so went to cdl school and started driving .
this was way before laptops , iphones , or quick ways to check out different opportunity's.
So what would i say ?
Make/ have a plan for the future .
Save money . Don't job hop. Loose the attitude . Wait to get married ( trucking and married life is really really hard) . Mostly though it would be , the issues you have now are not going to magically disappear and doing stupid stuff does't solve them.
Now almost 29 years later and still trucking , i still do like it and as a profession it was a good choice , but like everything else in life it is what it is . I made my life they way i wanted and it works.

If your spouse has insecurity issues now, the trucking business will most likely cause you to end up divorced.

My advice to younger me would have been to follow my dreams, I’m a huge supercross/motocross fan and there were a few driving positions over the years with established teams that would have given me a chance to go to every race and location that the schedule follows, I always talked myself out of it, and now at 41 with an established family, it’s just something I can’t do.

Communicate better and ask for a sit down with management to address my concerns instead of quitting out of disgust.

Stay a mechanic and only get behind the wheel to bring the truck in/out of the shop.

I would have gotten into hauling fuel and chemicals way sooner than I did. Try at 6 months in instead of 5 years in.
