You might want to consult your insurance paperwork and see if it says anything in there about leaving the keys in the ignition. I know looking at mine, it specifically mentions leaving the keys in the ignition and the vehicle unattended would result in an issue with filing a claim being that i would enable the perpetrator the means needed to steal my vehicle.

I seriously doubt that would hold up in court. Your policy undoubtedly states they won't pay a claim if you cause the accident?
A good thief doesn't even need a set of keys .

Im pretty sure it would considering you facilitated in the thief taking the vehicle. At least with the keys out and doors locked, you did everything you can do to deter a thief. Insurance isnt there to cover stupid. And Im pretty sure if your vehicle was stolen because you left the keys in the ignition, and the windows rolled down, that would justify stupid, and I cant see any judge feeling sorry for you

Whether it's covered under insurance or not I don't care. It's more than mildly inconvenient to have your vehicle stolen, especially if you are out and about and not at the house. If it makes you feel like a rebel or whatever to leave it running with the windows down unattended, go for it! Just don't ask for a ride when it gets stolen.

Probably for the same reason people hurry up to wait in stop and go traffic, they like nothing more than to idle (I know who you are, pretty much everyone but me).

Just a theory, I set a personal best driving through a major city at rush hour the other day, didn't step on my brakes once, and therefore never idled, talk about parting the red sea (of redundancy).

I usually don't leave my keys in the ignition, but if I do I did nothing wrong or Illegal. I don't know why, but my grandfather has always left the keys on the ignition of every vehicle he has owned with the doors unlocked. He is 85 and has never had anything stolen. If someone wants your car they will get it weather the keys are there or not

If the keys aren't in it, I can't get locked out.

Are truck is set to turn off after five minutes of idling unless optimized idle is turned on. When it was hotter out we would run our opt idle, now we just open the windows, but we do have to idle every once in a while so that our inverter don't kill that battery

I prefer the truck to be off unless it is hot out or its below freezing and I need to idle to keep the cab livable. My current codriver uses a CPAP and he needs the truck on to run his machine because I don't have an APU or generator. Inverter would wreck my batteries in a couple of hours.

I don't like shutting a truck down either, for that same reason.
