Being a driver I can say that truckers idle way too much, I'm surrounded by idling trucks in a pilot with solo drivers on a sunny mid 60s degree dry weather. This is only hurting us for when we actually need too idle.

If you are driving for the city of dallas TX, you can not idle because the city is under the scrutiny of the EPA. Exceptions are to run something on the truck like a PTO or the orange lights and strobes. For safety and work power purposes only. But that's not classified as idling it is making power.

Because they are so inconsiderate of other people. It would not even dawn on them that maybe their engine noise is waking someone up or their exhaust fumes are giving some kid an asthma attack. Most of them just don't care. Someone else is paying for the fuel, so why should they care?

Just answering off the bold caption, IMO legitimate idling is freezing temps, blistering temps

I don't idle, I've got a thermoking APU, but I don't have a problem with idling trucks, it would be nice if driver with old carrier reefers, would try a park next to other reefer, but the rudeness in trucking as gone abundance, I've seen reefer drivers pass multiple spots where they could have parked next to another reefer, to park next to a flatbed, it's just the new world trucking attitude in today's steering wheel holders

I have to wonder sometimes, if stuff like this isn't more due to stupidity, than to anything else. Nobody ever mentioned it to them, and they don't know any different. Of course, a lot of folks just don't give a darn, or are actually doing something just to be ornery. But I've got to think that a lot of it is just not realizing how what they do affects somebody else.

( Reefer ) Hot day and exhaust fumes billowing into the flatbedders cab, Really, I could understand. It's a truck stop, If no one likes their neighbor, oh well. It's temporary. Sure beats Team Driving at CRST sleeping in the bunk with a stranger bouncing you down the road :biggrin_2559:
