Yeah. That’s usually how they start you. It’s basically to see your work ethic. If you survive the season they’ll put you OTR. You’ll probably have Dwayne training you on how to load and use the pumps to unload into farmers poly tanks. After that is nut season. Almonds mainly. Some walnuts. Whatever you do, do not get stuck hauling tomatoes. They don’t pay worth a hill of beans. 12 hour shifts for crumbs. Usually the guys who get stuck hauling tomatoes are guys with zero experience. You’ve got experience so you should be good.

When I was there percentage pay starts at 25% of the load. You can easily do 1300 a week. My best week when I was hauling almonds was $2100. Thats local work. When I went OTR Food grade tanker I was making 47 CPM and easily getting 3000 miles in a week plus accessory pay. They were good about paying for detention and other things like using the trailer pump to unload. $60 to load and $60 to unload. You also got paid for crossing into canada. And, if you were out on the road and needed a 34 you could get a motel on the companies dime or they paid and extra 120 to do a 34 in the truck.

I believe their pay structure has changed due to a class action lawsuit they had against them. Last year I received a settlement check. I honestly didn't want to cash it because I believe I was fairly paid but I cashed it because the company had already payed out the money. Why not? Anyways, I believe Buttons drivers are now paid hourly for the time on duty / not driving. Its been 3 years since I worked for Button. I'd still be there but I'm making more at my current company and I'm home every night and off on weekends. I also have a small child at home so OTR isn't for me at this time.
