I guess I have you to thank for pushing me out of the service industry and into transport.

    You're welcome!

I'll tip a cook but I'll rarely ever tip a waitor like 99.9% of the time. Cooks the one I came to see.

How many of you guys give away the time for your pretrip or post trip? How many get paid to fuel? How many have to give away two hours of detention before you get paid for sitting, if your company collects it? How many get paid to wait for a service truck because you blew a tire? If you get stuck on the road for the weekend how long do you sit before you get layover pay? A lot of drivers give away a lot of their time for nothing.

That all depends on how one.looks at things. I know what a load is paying before I take it. I get paid that for the load, it encompasses everything that may come along except for Detention and breakdown pay.

The more efficient I run it the more I make.

They (employers) argue that we get paid for all that,it's supposedly included in cpm we get.I agree with this argumentation as it would be pita to keep track of all these things. My problem is getting good cpm.I make good money but when I take into account all the hours I work, odd times I have to wake up at/drive and effort I start questioning my pay as I basically have no life.

I ####ing hate eating out... and i think it's because I know I have to tip those useless ####s when they didn't do anything that I couldn't have done myself.
Throwing dollars at incompetence and lechery.

What makes you think you have to tip?I mean I understand it became a custom in America but I don't think it's mandatory.Am I wrong?
I think bars are even worse as you are expected to tip a bartender on top of way overpriced drinks.

Not mandatory, Double D. But the g/f insists... Dude... When I was about 18 I almost had a bartender, at a concert, fight me because I didn't tip FOR WATER - a bottle he pulled out of a cooler. After I told him he could 'go #### himself' - he made sure to let the other tenders know, pointing and yelling (over the heavy metal), 'this guys cut off.'
Drama queen piece of ####... Honestly, I hate giving money to anyone for something I can do myself... s'why I changed my own timing belt ('01 VW Passat) a few years ago - took 9 hours, but ####ing right, I did it, and for less than it'd have cost for convenience.

I grit my teeth at tipping.

Yup being from a country where you tip only for exceptional service or for something that is actually beyond staff's duty I avoid tipping in America by simply trying to not frequent places, services where I am expected to tip.I think in my country of origin bartenders get some percentage of bar's sale.
I tip $2 for haircut but I use one of Chicago's $5 haircut places so it's still a good deal. When I was using $15 barber I didn't tip him as $15 seemed enough for me.He was a really good barber though worth every penny of those$15.
Funny that nobody wants to tip truck drivers.

I used to wait tables, then started cooking. As a server I made 2.34 an hour, but I pulled 20 an hour on tips regardless of who tipped what, that's what I averaged. This was in 04 in a decent economy.

Still make more driving, though I do long for home sometimes.
