Long story short here, I want to get my CDL, my current job is about to play out. In January 2014 I was terminated from a job ( I was a maintenance supervisor) for taking up for one of my workers who come to find out lied to me about messing up a machine. I took his word, and stuck my neck out and it bit me in the butt. Anyway got another job, been here for a year and half. My question is will the termination affect me getting a driving job with companies like Averitt, Big M, or Schneider? I don't wanna go through the school and then find out nobody will hire me because of my termination. I'm sure the place I was terminated from will say they would not rehire me. I had been at that job for 13 years. Any help will be appreciated
What are my chances of getting a good job?

I think if you were honest and you were fully qualified otherwise, there should be no problem.
Erick Evans Thanks this. -
You're screwed...... Just kidding, just kidding. I wouldn't worry about it.

On the applications I have seen over the past two years, I have not seen a why did you leave question. The fact that you have an extended employment history is in your favor, why or how you leave a company is less important, especially if it's not in transportation industry. As long as your mvr and criminal background are clean... I don't think you'd have any problem with any of the carriers you've mentioned, or any other for that matter. Even if you choose to disclose the termination, but that would be up to you.
Good luck...! -
Yes, I'm 34 and have only held 4 jobs since I was 15 years old. And have worked everyday since I was 15. No unemployment periods. Never been arrested for anything. Never had a DUI or anything of sort, no accidents, and haven't had a speeding ticket in almost 10 years.

You won't have a problem being hired by a trucking company. Just be honest on the application.
A few companies such as Prime won't hire you but that's no big loss; dozens of others will.
Do you want private CDL school or trucking company CDL school.
Where is your location; city/state?
Many good choices out there other than those you listed. -
I'm looking at a CDL school here close by. I'm located in Tupelo, MS. My ultimate goal is to get on with Ashley Distibution. Ecru terminal is very close to me, but they require 1 year experience so gotta get that somewhere. Averitt is my first choice with all the research I have done. But I am open to others. Home time is important, I have a family so don't wanna be out months at a time. Main reason I like Averitt and Ashley.

That's a good plan, to work for Ashley.
Probably won't have any problem being hired by Averitt.
Howard Transportation in Ellisville, MS has a good reputation.
Watkins-Shepard Trucking in Myrtle, MS hires new CDL grads. Probably get good hometime because it's a dedicated account. www.wksh.com -
I contacted 4 companies (Swift, Roehl, Henderson, and Millis) for their CDL training and 3 of them got back to me by week's end with offers. -
Thanks for everything guys. Sure didn't wanna go through school and all that and then have a problem finding work. I'm gonna have to quit my job to go to cdl school. And can't afford to be out of work totally much over 2 months. I have savings to cover me that long maybe a little longer.
Chinatown Thanks this.
