hello, I've been pondering becoming a trucker for about 3 years. I really want to reboot my life as I'm 46 and no ties. Great physical shape, no bp or diabetes problems. I have some concerns though about going to school then getting hired and I'd be grateful for any help that can be provided.
    1) I have a misdemeanor DUI from 1997
    2) I take a medicine called lexapro for anxiety
    3) for the past 10 years I've been largely self employed doing an Internet store. In those years I have picked up 2 hotel jobs tha I sayed at for a couple years each for the social aspect.
    4) 2010 had a red light ticker

These are all my sins I can think of. So I'm curious based on anyone's experience, am I employable as on otr driver? Thanks for the help

You need to forget about #2. When you go for your dot physical, you do not have anxiety and you take no medications.

Lexapro will not keep you from getting a CDL, from what I can see, but you would be limited to a one-year medical card instead of two. Your DUI is almost twenty years ago, is it part of a permanent record? If not, it shouldn't be a problem, either. And what is number 4?

Sorry #4 is red light ticket. Yes I think it is permanent. I live in Florida but it happened in Texas. It's pretty old but not sure if a company on frown on that. I know some probably would but just curious about the industry's take on it

You THINK it's permanent...you need to find out for sure, unless someone else here already knows. As far as the Lexapro, I looked on a site by DOT doctors that said you could basically get a letter from your doctor explaining why you were prescribed your medication. I'm not sure if that class if drug is screened for in a urinalysis it not, on a quick search. It may be. But in that case, again, you could still get a one-year card.

a DOT 5 panel it will not show. You can also just buy a kit and check it yourself.
