What are some different local trucking companies in Florida that don't work more than 12 hours?

Check out equipment rental places. I never drove for one, worked in the shop, but 90% of the time the delivery guys were parked in the yard and clocking off the same time we were. If they were clocking out late it was usually due to traffic. Seemed like most equipment pickups and deliveries were scheduled during regular business hours.

 

Old dominion is about to open a massive terminal in wildwood, I would look at your options to get in there and then work your way up through their system. I’m familiar with your zip “the shores”, if you know you know, you’re in a good area for work, and Im sure it will only get better in the years to come. This place is becoming a mad house though, my old arse is ready to hit the road and find somewhere new.

I work at one of those, and unfortunately they will sometimes do 18+ hours, that is what I want to avoid if possible.

 

A local one does offer CDL classes, but I just won't be able to juggle my full-time job hours and the classes, by the time I'd get out of class, I'll be lucky to get 2 hours of sleep (in a 24 hr period mind you) before I have to go back to work. And that is assuming I finish my work (since we don't work on shifts) in time to get to class on time. I don't want to let go of my work unless I know for sure I can find work afterwards and preferably within that work time range (14 hours) if possible.

 

What kind of loads do they transport at construction companies, are they still Class A trailers, or are they Class B trailers?

 

Do you happen to know the names of any specific Equipment rental companies I can look into to get an idea of what or how I can be searching for them online to see if they have trucking positions available.

 

If you're making $26.50 per hour now, getting at least 40 hours per week, you're not worried your current job is about to end, and you've got a GF and a life you enjoy, I'd recommend staying put.

If you get your CDL thru Marion Technical College, there in Ocala -- you would be eligible for tuition reimbursement from Dot Foods -- according to their website:

Otherwise....just get your CDL from the class that does weekends.

Also: meet up with Dot Foods drivers at truck stops nearby (like when they fuel up) -- & ask them what kind of hours they normally do.

Driving for Dot will be one of the best driving jobs you can get in your area.

I recently began working as a driver for Builder's First Source. My schedule is Monday-Friday 7am-5pm. I am often off about 3pm but have to be available until 5pm. I am paid hourly but it is about what you are already making. Might be paid more in Florida though, I don't know.
