I plan on getting my CDL when I’m 21 in Nov and I want to purchase a Tractor but I’m not really sure on what direction i should go.I’m not trying to rush into getting a Semi,BUT i want to atleast have a plan.I Originally wanted to save and purchase a used semi for 35-45k but I was told this wasn’t the best idea.I did research on a Lease purchase program but it was $900 a week which seems a little too much Imo.(Not many companies will allow me to lease on due to my age). What would be my best option ?
What are some options to purchasing a Semi

I'd drive for someone else for a couple of years. What if you get yourself into debt and then realize you hate trucking? A lot of people do hate it.

Get a years driven. If you still want the job after that first year. There are members here that will pay ALOT more. Like 8k a week.

I wouldn’t do lease purchase. Maybe you just especially want to go OTR, but I run locally year round for a mill. Lots of new O/O’s get started like that. Depending on your area it would be something like end dump, hopper, wood chips, or flatbed most likely. It would keep you from having to find work, deal with brokers etc. Also insurance will be a good deal cheaper if you stay local. Use local truck repair shops always. Not a bad way to get started.

I would suggest getting a few years driving experience. Putting 20 to 30% down on a new truck and trailer. And a minimum of 50,000 in a checking account. Buying new equipment not worn out equipment. Also keep in mind insurance cost. Insurance companies want to see a few years of experience driving.
