Time to ask some experts
Ok, a little background. I've been expediting in a cargo van (yes unregulated) since 2006.
Now since then, I've toyed with the idea of either getting an under 26k straight, or just getting my D license (B for Americans?)
So here's my issue: I have a 2005 Dodge Sprinter leased to a major carrier. Last 2 runs, 1.50 a mile and 1.61 a mile (shorties but I generally stay above $1 a mile loaded only)
So...after spending an entire day sifting thru forums, I don't see a whole lot of evidence of higher pay, even without taking insurance, fuel, maintenance and regulation costs in....save maybe reefer
What's the secret? I'm not in love with expediting so I'd have to stay with it (expedited loads are exclusive to that one load) IMO wouldn't it make more sense to just drive local, pick up a bunch of freight, and go home every night?
Am I being lied to about rates? Are expedited straights getting $3 a mile? ()
Somebody please help me out.
(Once that's settled, on to what freaking truck won't explode)
Thanks
What are some rates for 5 ton Expedite trucks?
