Teamsters never liked the restart. They always did the recap regardless per a member who was on here and a mod for very short time.
What are supposed to be the benefits of the new HOS? I see none

Restarts aren't mandatory, even with the new HOS rules. If you can stretch out your 70s to a 8 day recap, you would actually be more refreshed instead of running your drive time out every day.
At my employer, we don't even come close to busting out the 70s. If you actually treat the industry like a 9-5 and run multiple shifts to only keep drivers 8 hours at a time, you feel much better driving every day. -
The reason for my comment is to show that the Teamsters had no reason to be involved like others think.
They almost all get 48 hours off on the weekend and the hours through the week are not enough to burn a 70. I stated they used the recap which means they were not opting for the 34.Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
If someone is working 70 hours+ in 7 days and always pushing the limits and only earning 30k per year, that is that person's choice. It isn't for you or anyone else to say what wage another person works for or how much work they do while still being within the HOS limits.
If you really think lots of drivers are working for "slave labor" wages, then ask yourself, why do they continue to do it? Evidently they are being paid a sufficient amount to keep them doing the job. Now, let's make it a little more difficult for that same driver to accomplish his duties. Let's have him constantly thinking about what his logbook looks like and wonder whether he is in violation or not. Let's totally ignore the fact that truck crashes are less and less every year. **This I might add here, why hasn't anyone measured truck related crashes per say, 1,000,000 miles? Example - in 2008 when it all crashed, take half the trucks off the road and the number of crashes goes down also by half - how would that make sense?**The Breeze Thanks this. -
And your situation is perfect for the rest of the industry exactly how? It works for you, so F everyone else? How many people do you expect to have competing for your job if this regulation comes to pass? What do you think that will do to your wage? Then you may find yourself on the flip side of the coin, but it will be too late.
A truck stop would be such a nice place for the coast to coast drivers if they operated 8 out of 24 hours. What an improvement that would be.The Breeze Thanks this. -
And this my friends is why OTR driving jobs pay crap. Why would a trucking company offer more pay per miles when they know you are willing to stretch your HOS to earn more money.Ghost Ryder Thanks this.

You know, not every trucking company is a 9 to 5 job like that, and if the union wants to have their drivers only drive 8 hours a day, then write it in the contract and leave the rest of us alone. The 1/2 hour break has the union written all over it.
