Studies make no difference . When the ATA petitioned for speed limiters in 2006 OOIDA produced several studies proving trucks driving below the posted speed increased accident risk . One of these studies was funded by NHTSA . ATA couldn't produce a single study showing any safety benefits of speed limiters . What they could produce is over 3,000 people posting comments supporting the petition . Speed limiters are coming .
What are the benefits of the changes ? The peoople that wanted the restart eliminated and driving hours set back to 10 made some progress . They benefited .

Drivers always react the same . They always whine here and ignore the requests for comments FMCSA is required to post before enacting any new regulation .

The eight hour rule for the half hour break is silly enough, but the reset rule is just downright stupid. It can stretch a reset into over 50 hours. You have to have two blocks of 1 - 5 am maybe 2-5 but I think its 1-5. So lets say you get home at 3 am on friday your reset is not done until 5 am sunday. So that's now a 50 hour reset., if my math is right. If you shut down right at the start of the first block your ok. I see this as a penalty for driving after midnight. Which will drop the number of trucks on the road at night but increase the number during the day. Because every day a percentage of drivers will have to reset and want to avoid the new penalty. So the question is why would they want to take trucks off the road? The way I see it, trucks on the road at any given time is going to drop just simply because they can be shut down for so long now by this new penalty. It may drive up the cost of goods making cheaper overseas goods more wanted. Not trying to be a tin foil hat guy, just saying seems like good way to punch more holes in the side of the boat.

Fuel during posttrips or pretrips or leave an hour earlier . Have you never been delayed 30 minutes in traffic or even longer at a roadside or scale inspection ? You go to Canada . How long have you waited at border crossings ?
If your load schedules are that tight you're working for the wrong carrier .

Just make sure that 30 mins is either in the sleeper or off duty. It can't be done on duty.

I can think of a few reasons but possibly the number one reason being that in the eyes of the majority of the public (4 wheelers) we are in THEIR way ... they could AT LEAST be 2 more miles further down the road if that truck wasn't in the granny lane doing 65 which of course is the speed limit and EVERYONE knows the speed limit doesn't apply to 99% of 4 wheelers or 200% of congressmen or 5,000,000% of police officers. See Trucks are the nuisance of the roadways ... if they only knew :/

Why? Follow the money. Who funds the safety pressure groups? Until Congress changed the laws a few years ago so they didn't have to reveal their funding sources, it was the railroads. Why do the railroads want trucks off of the road? They'd rather YOU were on the dole, and your freight was being pulled in one of their wagons.

you guys really are making a big deal out of nothing.

just becuase the guv wants. doesn't mean you have to follow. do your job your way. the safe way. and just write what the gov wants.

it's really not that difficult. what the gov don't know. won't hurt them.

most of us don't follow the rules now. why would we follow the rules then??? i still run on the rules from 2000. cuz there was nothing wrong with them rules.
