Allowing for a 128” hood and a 62” bunk and a 12” headache rack and a 24” catwalk and 48” room for front overhang and a 24” KP setback, I’d say the minimum ideal wheelbase for any self respecting flat bedder wanting to haul 60 ft beams in the northeast with a long nosed Pete is about 280”.

Is 280” considered long? I don’t know but I have 253”. I can barely climb up on the catwalk, I need a special thin cabinet, I can’t have any front overhang, my 5th wheel is all the way back, I can only get 10,000 on my steers and it pushes through corners in the winter.

IMO there’s more too it than looks.

Exactly what I’m saying. And still no room for s cabinet. What’s your wheel base? How do you store all your chains and binders etc? I tried a trailer toolbox and hated it

I'm not 100% sure but i think they allow 4 ft with red flags as long as the total load is no more than 53. That's not my normal running area so I'd have to look it up.

Its funny how putting up a few utube videos makes so many people think you know what you're doing.

One thing you are off on. A 379 ex hood is 127" bbc. That is not the hood length, its bumper to back of cab

Oh that might be. I would’ve had a 53 so maybe it’s no rear overhang permittable on a 53

    Al. Roper Thanks this.

I just took off a rack, right now chajns and binders are in side boxes. I don't use them much. I am working on an idea for a back between the frame rails. Otherwise I'd get a nice slim enclosed rack.

I don't need another catch-all like a big rack would be
