As stated earlier. You are looking in the area of 100,000 miles a year for simplicity. If one company is paying .27 for newby's, then others might be the same or less. You will not be seeing large miles per week when you start. You have to get into the swing of things.

I think between 100,000 to 125,000 will be the expected miles.

At least if you are getting less miles, you are driving less and hence have more free time? How many hours per week on average would you be driving 1st year?

Depends on the company. But free time? Sitting in a truck?

The key word is 'average', which means they take the first year income of a bunch of first years, add it up and divide it by the number of first years they got income info from. Some start out higher, get good miles or whatever and others don't. It's a toss up as to what you will get for starting pay and for miles.

As far as changing your driver's license to another state, you have to have a residence in that state, and it's a simple matter of going to their DMV and getting a new license issued. It's not very difficult. About as simple as renewing your driver's license in your current state.

With the exception of Illinois. They have strict requirements.

Helpful info there. I did Florida and then back to Wisconsin. Easy as all get out both times. I suppose Illinois does have some strict requirements after the trouble they had several years ago over CDL's.

Just because you're not getting miles doesnt mean free time. You could be sitting at a truck stop for 2 days waiting for a load in the middle of nowhere. If you think that is free time guess again. You'll be spending money to eat, shower wash your clothes.

And then there are the times when you have to run your butt off for five days and because you didnt watch your hours properly you get stuck in nowheresville at a rinky dink truck stop low on cash because they dont honor your fuel card and you cant get an advance so you're living on ramen noodles and and ice water for 34 hours to get your clock reset but the company doesnt have a load for you to pick up and wont let you deadhead anywhere so that you can get a shower fuel the truck and get money. Yeah that's free time all right, just living the dream.

And kid if you keep on BELEIVING what these companies are telling you that of course you'll make that much money, the people that are telling you different cant be much of a truck driver, you deserve to get taken to the cleaners.:biggrin_25516::biggrin_25516:

What you may not know is the amount of time you might spend at a given dock. If it approaches your 10 hour break time and you have been on the computer instead of sleeping, it will be a long 11 hour drive.

Not sure what you are saying. Could you explain this more.

I wouldn't cut into my sleeping time with computer activity.
