Ya'll dog on the mega companies so bad and their rookie drivers...however
All of my bad experiences to date have been with vetern drivers who have become just a tad too comfortable behind the wheel.

    They tailgate
Throw piss bottles out the window.
    Drive too fast
I saw one vet lookin guy driving with one foot on the dash with no shoe on his foot
Park in the driving lanes at truck stops..cause they just don't care anymore.
I saw a seemingly lookin vet ( was hauling a container on a 4 axle flatbed) smoking up his brakes something bad going over Whites Pass ( 6 miles of 6%, lots of sharp turns..ect ) yesterday.
He was braking way too much...

Me? the rook?...had my 40k load in 8th gear and barely even touched the brakes.

So ease up on the rookies! I know it's the popular thing to do and it makes ya feel all important and whatnots...but rookies are people too!

Especially some of you who have less than a year in trucking YOURSELF...you are still a rook in my eyes. You know who you are!

You're a rookie if you have less than two at least, in my opinion.

Those guys aren't representative of veteran PROFESSIONAL drivers. Those guys are just douche bags, young and old alike.

I've had to help 10+ year drivers back into a right spot while a brand new driver throws it right in first try. It's a fact, some guys are more naturally talented. Those are the ones who usually succeed better than others.

It's ashame you haven't been around real veteran drivers. What you have descibed are drivers that have carried their bad habits for years. Where have you seen these sorry drivers? Are they driving for the megacarriers? Because a good veteran driver is one you never notice unless you're watching for safe driving. These experienced drivers are very seldom around rookie drivers because they are at jobs that you are working up to.

I've had my CDL since 1989 and owned my own trucks since 2005 and still consider myself a rookie.

Please enlighten me how you "know" these were veteran drivers? Age doesn't mean squat in this profession in regards to experience. Now that I have 12 years behind the wheel, I feel I'm a veteran driver. How would you know since I'm in my mid thirties. You might even call me a rookie next to a 50 year old recent driving school grad. You have a lot to learn rookie.

Since ya hijacked the thread. I have not read much about the mega carriers in this one AND.....if you play your cards right you can make a decent living working for one of them. Do you have any other identifiers so we can tell a veteran driver from a rookie?
