yeah, from what i've seen, it seems to be a lot of hassle, I'll stick with being a company driver for now. Are those "unexpected incidences" really that common, I always hoped that since these trucks are built for the sole purse of driving long distances that they would be a bit more "hardy" or "sturdy" and wouldn't succumb to so many break down issues.

is hourly pay better than a CPM pay-based system in your opinion?

I had called a local school about their program, and the lady I talked to did actually mention something about a grant, but she said that there isn't always a guarantee, and that I could get more info once I go in for the orientation or interview with an advisor. Somehow I feel like I am going to be one of those who don't get to get the grant. The reason being, just like all other school grants, you will get it if you have financial need for it (which I personally do, but I don't think the govt will see it that way), and if you don't already have some higher education (which I do, I have a B.A.). Does Swift and CR England have a "good" reputation, one person on another forum said their reputation is terrible, which now is making me hesitate because I was just about to start looking into them since someone else on here said that they can pay for training.

Wilson Logistics hires in Florida. Probably send you to school in Springfield, Missouri.
Will provide transportation to get there and meals & lodging while attending their cdl school.
Most of their training in OJT and not sitting in a classroom. Excellent reputation.

    Big state, what part?.

Sheridan tech in Broward county has a CDL program. It was only $1800 last time I checked. It's part of Broward county school district so it's not some fly by night, out only for profit setup.

You know you dont get to spec your truck until you buy one right? They will give you a beat to snot older truck for you to learn on. Then maybe in 6 months they might give you something better.
