You need to read parts 40 and other sections of the FMCSR to get an understanding on drug use. The laws get complicated and are at times hard to follow. However, this is your job and it's up to you to know what you can do and not do. Even though the regulations only specify certain individuals who must partake in your medical review I highly recommend that when it comes to your medication I would let the company know what and when you take such meds. It used to be that methadone was out no matter what. So you need to check and check above board. You should ask for a letter from the Doctor that he knows you drive a truck and all the limitation of each drug has been explained.

As A chronic pain sufferer myself I know the hassles and troubles you can go through just to get some pain relief. You've just got to remember that you must dance a little to please the authorities. You'll be much better as a driver and hopefully you'll have many years ahead of you. Good luck.

We just started trucking & my husband is on vics. It took 6 months of red tape & an unusual ok from DOT docs. Our personal doc. And the company. I would't count on that happening for anyone else now though. Good luck.
