To be honest there really isn't a "safe" T/S. Granted the T/S's in big cities are more prone to stuff happening. Stuff can happen at small town T/S's as well . Here's an example I was at the T/S in Pratt,Ks. and in a span of about 15 minutes I was aprroached by a lot lizard, a driver was robbed, and a parked truck (fornutaley there was very little damage to the truck, but enough to the car to make it identifable to the PD)was hit by the robbers. Between the three of us the local PD had a pretty good idea who had done it. Apparentlly the lot lizard was a decoy for her BF/pimp,whatever to sneek up and rob a driver. No driver was hurt, just PO'd. That is one of reasons besides not wanting to get a STD or worse that I don't mess with Lot Lizards.

An extremely high percentage of lowlifes hang out at small-town truck stops in South Carolina... maybe it's the close proximity to 95 and all the filth draining out of the northeast???

The Hess/Wilco on I-95 just south of the I-95/I-26 connection has been the best place for me to stay when I was OTR with no incident spending the night in SC on 95.

This past week, had my worst exp. ever at the T/A in Alb. They've been trying to clean the place up, but it hasn't worked. Got there at 8am, had 2 hrs to kill for breakfast before heading to my customer. Found a nice spot and parked, shut the truck down and went inside. Wasn't in there minutes when they asked for the driver of my driver to come to the fuel desk. Seems the idiot who backed into the space behind me, backed in too far and rammed my trailer (container).

I totally agree with you... The TA in Dallas is another sewer as well as anything in Gary, IN,

....another good stop is White's Truck Stop at I-81 and I-64 in Raphine, VA. Old school Mom and Pop with a big lot, real food in a cafe with good fresh cooked breakfast as you order it. I talked with the 3 waitresses, who were all truckers wives, and respected their trucker customers. It was a fresh change to the normal TA, J, or Pilot attitude. I stayed twice at the J in Carney's Point New Jersey on I-95/295 right on the Delaware line. It was clean, quiet, and the service was good and friendly. Good sized lot and the place is very clean. Much different than you'd expect in the northeast.
Another place where I've had a couple of good stops is Meridian, Miss. At Exit 160 on I-20/59 is a TA on the north side of the overpass. It fills up rather quickly and is nothing special, but if you look to the south side of the exit, there is what appears to be a small BP Gas Station hidden in some woods. BUT, when you pull around to it you'll see there is a lot for about 40 trucks, and a big convenience store with truck fuel islands. Hardly anyone knows about it or pays attention to it, because they don't think they can park a truck there, until you get past the woods and trees and see the whole place. A guy bought it and fixed it up and cleaned it up, has biscuits and breakfast in the mornings, clean restrooms and a good sized store with a couple of grocery aisles.

I completely agree with you about White's on I-81 in VA. I've eaten there many times and they have good southern type meals on the menu. Davis on the other side of the state on I-95 is a nice quiet place with very clean showers and newly remodeled store. They also have free wi-fi.

In NC at the bottom of Old Fort mountain on I-40, stop at the Marion travel plaza at exit 81 instead of the Love's at exit 86. The Love's here lately has been so crowded that I can't even get in there for lunch anymore (Subway only)! I drive this section of road every day. The Marion travel plaza always has a lot of parking (cause everyone goes to Love's) and they have good sized store with a sit down restaurant with food cooked to order at reasonable prices. I can afford to each lunch there a few times a week for under $6.
BiLLee, DocWatson and halfburn Thank this.
