    Why ain't the money here?
When most people hear the truth they want to try to plug their ears and scream. What do they suppose will happen if most people do that for decades on end? They were never informed, by design, that for almost all of human history man was not free but was enslaved under small groups that had all the power. America for a blip in time WAS an outlier. Key word here is WAS. That's it....you want to try to plug your ears and scream.

Deregulation. But if it hadn’t happened then people would be whining that it’s too hard or too expensive to get very limited operating authority. It’s pretty easy to see what direction this industry has gone since 1980. It’s not exactly a conspiracy theory.

I am not too sure if all those owner-operators with their own authority are NOT the core of the problem, and I may be there too. This is about diluting the system with lots of business-disorganized scrumble of trucks, wishing for random freight at random places. It is all right if you can manage to stay on your own course but if most of those who get their numbers and insurance and after 15 months run with a tail between their legs, that means that this is a trap. I think that somewhere between the pre-regulation era and what now is would be a better platform for many owner-operators, and especially prospective owner-operators, allured by the tales of $15K gross per week and calculating how much they get to keep after fuel and truck payment. The entry is all too easy - there may be high insurance quotes but those young people are giving no rat's arse about being in debt, so there's that.
Perhaps Mercer and Landstar model would be optimal because from there to complete independence is a little technical and financial step but the premise remains the same - you look for your own freight and pretty much call your own shots.

I hate truck drivers about half the time these days. Especially at the fuel island.... but at least I only have to deal with that crap about every other day.
