    Hey.

I am now in a position where I have to maintain a truck completely. I have never done this, until now, I have always been in a position where it was all done for me aside from the basics.

Would any of you guys tell me what you do for your truck? How often do you grease it? And where? This may seem like a stupid question but what nipples do you grease and how often? How much grease do you apply?

What else do you do to keep your truck maintained and operating well, and how often?

Also, What spare belts, hoses etc do you carry?
    Thanks.

I grease nipples daily but my wife usually slaps me for it.

Grease the zerk fittings every week or two, change the oil around 20k mi but if you don't grease the truck yourself don't go 20k on a service that is fine for oil but too long for greasing.
check tire pressure weekly at least, check tire inflation daily. carry a set of belts (which depend on what you have for a motor they are all different), fuel filter, spare tail light and whatever else you have. I have a spare alternator and air bag in my truck but that's mainly just because I have them so why not

spare parts are a must. not an o/o but I drive like one I carry all the parts and tools to do any work I would know how to do. air to air clamps are also quite handy. I do all my own maintenance greasing would depend on the conditions you drive in I work in the woods and grease every weekend everything gets a squirt this may be wrong but I pump until I see it seep out this is also a good chance to look at all the steering and suspension parts. lastly I 'm guessing you will now be buying all your parts best to keep as much small stuff as you can with you a $5 part could cost hundreds if you need a service call.

Thanks guys. As I said this is all new to me, I feel like an idiot for not already knowing this stuff, so now it's time to learn. As far as greasing, I wasn't sure if it's possible to over grease it, possibly creating problems. I'm also not sure where to grease, as I am not even aware of all the graese points on the truck. So this, I need to learn. As far as oil and filter, I just bring the truck in at the milage the shop says to. Obviously brake adjustments, maintaining fluids etc I do as needed, just not to clear on the other stuff.....these reply's have helped however..

Hey Medicine Man, were you rolling through Little Rock on Tuesday East Bound on I 40? I swear i saw a blue Kenworth or Pete with "Medicine Man" on the door. I called out to you on the CB but the CB Rambos were going at it so not sure if you heard me. That ice sucked! 5 hours to go 20 miles

I change oil every 10,000 miles,I grease every 5,000 miles.
I hit all the zerks except the clutch throw out bearing.I do that one every 10,000 miles.Too much grease and it gets on the clutch plates and isn't good..
Carry a propane torch to thaw out frozen fuel lines and brake valves.
Carry a sharp knife, hose clamps and short pieces of pipe that will fit inside your airlines. You can make emergency repairs and save yourself $$$$$$$ on road service...Carry a spare pancake and the T-bolt to cage your brakes.
Bring a multi-meter for trouble shooting your electrical gremlins.
    A 20 ton bottlejack and some 4X4's..
And a good pair of coveralls to keep your clothes clean and hand cleaner.
