Hey guys looks like we need some tires replaced for the steer. What brands do you guys use? Should I go with kelly, dayton or stend a ton for some continentals or Bridgestone? Also do I need to changboth or just one side us ok?

I was quoted around $460 installed for kellys.

    Thanks

I run Michelin. Awesome tires... My last set I got 180000 out of them. And always buy a set, not one at a time. Also put centramatics on as well. You will really like those tires... I picked mine up at Love's for $1100 all in.

I have run Goodyear, Yokahama and now I have a set of Michelins. All were/are good wearing tires no problems to speak of. As for Centramatics or any of the other products out there I don't believe you will recover the expense of them over the life of the tire. A good three axel alignments and periodic tire balancing is the best for long life IMO.

Even if not, the ride is much better. But I suspect they pay for themselves over the life of the truck in little things not rattling apart.

I would never have bought Centramatics on my own, but they came with my truck & now I'm a convert...

Michelin have given me the best wear and longevity. I'll easily get 200k - 225k out of them before I start thinking of new ones.

Currently using the XDA3. Pricey and must dismount before being able to rotate because they are directional. But I cant think of any other steer tire I would trust my life with more than these.

Drives and trailer tires, I am still experimenting with different tires in different price ranges.

As for changing 1 or both steers. Unless I damaged a tire and the other had less then 20k on it, I would replace both. Keep the other as a spare or they make good trailer tries.

I'm running the Michelin XDA3 on my steers as well... expensive... but I am completely confident in them and that is what I want in steer tires. I have Centramatics too and have been happy with them so far. I will probably get them for the drive axles next time I rotate my drives. Everything rides very smooth and there is absolutely no uneven wear.

I liked Bridgestone R280's but they were discontinued, I don't care much for the R283's so I'm trying Generals this time.

U want 16 ply, not 14 unless you run light on the steer axle.

I'm trying the powder balancer this time and have been impressed. took about 100 miles to balance out but it's been perfect since. I would go with that or the beads over centramatics or weights.
