Thanks Texan007
I've been running 100% synthetic for yrs, and when I would have/buy a new car/truck , would run by there specs for the first 3T and then change the oil / air filter . RPM's would go down and gas mileage would go up . Son put a ram air ( pvc ) from the front of he's car to the air filter and hes - Highway - mileage went up 10 miles on the gallon . .. We were reading in the million mile club ( semi-trucks ) were the would put in a oil by pass filter and drop in down just a inch or two below the engine and it made the engine oil cooler when on the road . Could you please send everything you have done, that u wrote in this form to my email address --- kg4cnc@yahoo.com -- thank you and be safe . ...............................................................................................................................................................
What can I do to make my truck run cooler going up grades?

Yes, pay attention to those gauges. The F450 should have something right? Well they are indeed cheap and easy to install and I wholeheartky agree that they can save an engine.

Evans coolant

Evans will make it run cooler???????????? this is a question
-
Evans will make the truck run cooler but you have to replace the thermostat, if you running the PURE propolyene glycol. I think they make another one that you can just replace your existing coolant with though.
I ran Evans in my Pete but have not put it in the Chevy yet, when I add the new injectors though I might be using it. I actually have almost no problems with the heat jumping on mine even while towing three one ton diesel F350's. It will jump for a minute or so every ince in a while during a climb in the summer, pushing wind, pulling waaaaayyyy too much weight.
Hey OP, what gears are in your truck and if they are 4.10 or something is your truck only overheating while pulling highway speeds?
If so the only solution may be to slow down. I used a brand new F450 while working in Aquatic Wildlife Management earlier this year and it would jump up sometime after wehad been on the highway for a while while carrying a pallet of fish feed on the bed with a boat behind us that usually had plenty of junk in it also. The gears just did not like running for long periods at 70-75. It keep the RPM's up and thus worked that new motor too hard.
Just a thought but if thats the case then reducing you speed .....well you know. I do not mean to be rude by pointing this out amd I might be completely wrong. Just trying to help. -
Why not do what makes sense..ie:> put a fan over-ride switch on so you can manually turn the fan on, if you know there's a hill ahead....then back 'er down a gear or two w/the fan on and relax.....cheaper than an engine or god-forbid trans...???

Slow down! Those 6.4's run good at about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, more then that and they just scream and overheat
-
I'd trade it for a Dodge and drive it without worry... Those V8 diesels in Chevy's and Fords are a joke...

Gauges in those are notorious for inaccuracy problems and do not move 'hotter' until the engine is already overheated. Add a real coolant temp gauge and oil temp gauge, and a coolant pressure gauge somehow.
That 6.4 is a bad design, overcomplex having many points of failure due to cheapness and its inability to cool itself because due to all the emissions junk on it, it fills the entire engine bay, and it is going to blow itself up some day in a cloud of steam and oil and that will be the end of it. I will never buy another Ford Diesel after owning one for 8 months during which time it had to be towed to a dealer 5 times for a different issue each time. I think the Ford 6.4 is the preferred engine for the light truck fleet in he11.
