what can prevent you from getting your CDL? Health conditions, Criminal records, medications... anything else you wouldn't have expected or guessed?

If you have a sleep apnea machine that you use and can log your uses is that okay?

Cpap machines are prevalent in trucking, with an increasing number of companies requiring drivers to undergo sleep studies. I doubt any company would bat an eye if you told them you used one unless they had a problem with installing an inverter in the truck. You wouldn't want to work for such a company anyway.

As long as your driving history isn't a disaster and you can get a DOT medical card there isn't much that will prevent you driving. Even ex felons get truck driving jobs, not great jobs, but paying jobs nonetheless.

I know of plenty of ex-felons in great LTL linehaul jobs making $80k-$100k per year. Granted the convictions were all over a decade ago in most cases. It's certainly true you won't get that kind of a gig fresh out of the joint or just coming off of probation.

I was going to say "Failing any test, including written, skills and road test". All those other reason will keep you from getting a job, not your license.

Sleep related is relatively new. It started getting more common as of 2001. Prior to that? Zip. It's a true monster now.

There was a time where certain felonies or crimes etc would have barred you from the industry. Things have changed so much from the time I took a 15 minute drive in a semi for my class A in the 80's and filled out a two page test, general knowledge and airbrakes. That's it done. Oh and eyes too. Can you see that chart? Ok done. Bye enjoy your work.

Fast forward to today, you have new barriers in our state where you must view as of July this year a video against human illegal trafficing for about 20 minutes and add that certificate to the Revenuer with all of the other stuff including your utility bills etc. Before they will consider your request for a new CDL from nothing.

It's getting to where they might pre-select babies for trucking at 18 based on childhood physical traits in big data.... and reject all others.
