What causes a turbo to blow....

    Turbos take a ton of abuse. They spin at like 80k-100k RPM, absorb a ton of heat and have to generate anywhere from 25-40 PSI of boost (or more). If you got 10k hours out of a turbo I'd say you did well.

    My turbo shaft bent bc of too much backpressure. I replaced the muffler when I installed new turbo.
    Although the fins on the turbo were scraping against the housing, I was still able to drive to 2 different shops in Fontana when it happened.

    A leak in the CAC would cause over boosting? Im asking because I don't know(not trying to be smart)

    Ive got an 2007 freight liner Detroit 14l tuned. How do I know what kind of BW turbo to get? Ive heard good about those.....other wise its $1295 tomorrow for a replacement....

    I had a turbo blow apart in my 2001 FLD an it went like a stick of TNT the EX fins put holes in curved part of ex pipe that i had to mig weld up, i have both ends of it nailed up to walls of my shop?

    A good friend had a pp tuned 14 litter and he blew a turbo every 12 to 18 months until a different shop told him to run a bigger turbo than the stage 1 (iirc) .. a bigger turbo doesn’t overspeed as much and his mpg went up too

    Not spooling down but cooling down. It slows down when the flow of gas from the exhaust goes down.

    It is best to idle for 7 to 10 minutes before shutting the truck down but many who come off the highway and take their time to a t/s, most likely won't need much cool down time.

    No it won't, a leak releases pressure.

    A bigger turbo means lag times to spool up.
