Logan - I have never heard of General Lee until I started looking around. I knnow Cobra has been around for a long time.
What would be better about a General Lee over the Cobra?
What is this RFX 75 thing I have been reading about people adding??
Thank you

If your looking to get an RFX75 put in your radio, do it a Cobra 29. The RFX75 adds anywhere from 100 watts to 125 watts and usually on the average cost is $100.00 installed. But if you buy the radio NEW, they might give you a better package deal.

That's probably what I'm going to do, what Dave suggested. Soon as I drive by a shop anyway.

So from what I have ready here it is a pretty good thing to get a Cobra 29 with the RFX 75?? Any other adivce?
Thank you -
Do you need or want:
Echo?
Roger Beep?
Big TX/RX meter?
Adjustable radio power?
Single Side Band?
To be able to key up and lock down the whole channel?
Ask yourself those questions. Also ask yourself how much room do you have for an install.
I will say this though...on the Cobra 29, if you don't need the backlit controls at night, don't get the "Nightwatch" series of Cobras. Because when the transformer/light used to illuminate the panel burns out (and it will), it costs almost as much to buy a new radio as it does to replace the parts.
Uniden offers a backlit feature that has multiple lamps to illuminate the face. Less of a chance for the face to suddenly go dark.
The RFX75 is a replacement final that boosts the output of the radio. It gives you a few more watts than the average Joe on his Cobra/Uniden/Galaxy.
HD_Renegade Thanks this. -
Yes the RFX Cobra's are an excellent bang for the buck, across the board performance to many radio's at there times the coin.
Disregard the channel splatter many seem to harp on here, its all part of the show. There are huge Corporations running far more RF splatter then any 20K CB's combined,a fact many need to understand and get over
pretty quick cause it ain't gonna change in their lifetime.
Adding the extra watts from an RFX mod will require attention to your SWR's,anything under 1.5 is fine and will give you great performance.
These hot rodded Cobra's are great for fleet trucks that restrict
the use of amps and extra power needs.
Yes the power is adjustable and yes you can lock up the channel is your around
a bunch of generic peak/tuned rigs.
You can easily key over any of the 50-80 watts stuff like General Lee's,the RFX does a strong 100-120 watts
and is LOUD and crystal clear for miles(8-15 average)
I own two** and run one in a Jeep for off road duty and it gets way out over the hills and I couldn't be happier with it for the price,I also have one in my truck.(one of 3 spares)
I ran it for a few months and got a kick out of its performance and overall
woo pass effect on a very large percentage of other truckin radio's.
YOU WILL BE HEARD WITH AN RFX!!
**One is built by Sparkys CB and one is built by CustomCbradios
they both scream but I do prefer the one from Sparkys as it holds the modulation wattage abit better then the one tuned by Doug at CustomCb
Slow & Wide and kajidono Thank this. -
The one I bought from Sparkys was a new chassis rfx modded with
echo and DX65 mic.(yes the stock mic was included, but not charge on the DX65)
Total shipped in was less then $240 if I recall?
Most rigs at half the wattage start at that price
Some like bells and whistles, the majority want performance.

Meet ya any day and I'll hook up the rfx and give you a test run.
Just bring your 80 watt rig to the show and I'll show you SPARKIFIED!
Put the smack down on N Little Rock Petro last time I was there, folks in Pilot said she was throwing big rocks in the sand box
and didnt have to flip the big switch.
Problem is with you folks you read to much BS and then
regurge it on public forums like its a life experience.
I run big watt radio rigs as a hobby and the rfx mod is one of the coolest
little gadgets the hobby has seen in 20 years.
Like they say,The Pro's have all the answers
The Experienced know the exceptions
Apples to Apples simpleton, stand alone radio were talking here
Your little br549 wont even drive a straight 8 pill, but the rfx will run it and loaf along making big watts.
Might have something to do with a 22 watt carrier pushing the little rfx pill box ??
Like the guy said the other day.......
Do Swift Trucks have turbo's ?
