Is Verizon going to be my best bet when I'm out on the road? Who do you have? Any troubles with reception and dead spots so on so forth
What cell phone company is gonna be the best?

Every carrier has "dead spots." It's really just overglorified radio. Verizon has less problems with it, especially in the boonies IMO, but when the jackrabbits seriously outnumber humans, you're probably not going to get the best service by any carrier. Check the coverage maps carefully before you sign a contract.
It's more important to have good cell coverage and service than the other goodies. 4G internet service won't help get the breakdown truck to you.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
I'm happy with Straight Talk. Uses the AT&T network for a fraction of the cost. I use Millenicom for my internet, way less than I was paying Verizon.
Big Duker and easy duz it Thank this. -
If you want it to work most of the time, Verizon is your best bet. If you want cheap than something other.

Depends on what you want to do with your phone. I need EVERYTHING! My cell phone company is a local one that I use a Tether/moble hot spot to send documents to get paid, look up stuff and so on.
Straight Talk is the way to go if you just need a phone. Used them for years, great, works everywhere, but I need a hot spot internet on the go, and straight talk doesn't have that.

Verizon is the best on the road hands down! Bit more expensive but worth it in coverage compared to the others, Sprint is the worst,AT&T varies, US Cellular has data roaming which basically if you leave your local area they only give you 500 mb of data...which sucks and is unacceptable...T Mobile isn't very good either.

Since my 1st bag phone in 1994, I've tried Kansas cellular, Cellular One, SBC cellular (became AT&T), Sprint, Nextel, Alltell and Verizon. Verizon is by far the best for coverage across the nation. They might cost a little more, but I had 4g in places I didn't expect service at all.

I am personally on Verizon, but I got mine back when they had "unlimited" Data, I also have 5 other "dumb" phones on my family plan($10.00 a month ea. for unlimited talk and text, but no data is hard to beat) so I choose to buy slightly used phones from people that decide that they don't want to continue their contract with Verizon, that way I do not have to give up my unlimited data. If they ever "force" me to give up my unlimited data,(or I find myself no longer responsible for supplying most of the cellphones in my family) I will buy a sim card from straight talk and convert my existing phones, their coverage is almost as good as Verizon's. Just my $0.02. I would also like to add that if I(and it was just ME no other phones) were just starting out and looking for the best bang for my buck I would go with Straight Talk.

Strait talk has phones from Verizon, AT&T, Sprint. Just pick what carrier by the phone you chose. Strait talk does have mobile hot spot, its $50 for 5M per month.
