    Hi everybody,

What means "check for over drive: YES or NO"...there always the words "OD" or this mention above in all advertised trucks in the Truck Paper,
Do you guys know what this means?
Like if the transmittion doesn't has the OD or Over Driver YES what is gonna be the difference or the impact on my transmition?
I'm buying a truck now and everytime i'm searching and can see in the advertising those "over drive" thing.
    Thanks!

the 13th gear on a 13 speed has been checked for wear and or the sales agent took it for a spin and shifted into 13th to see.

    just a guess.

Thanks, yeah i'm kind of confuse with this part specific...i'm afraid to buy a tractor with "check 4 overdrive: NO" and buy something wrong...
If it is only a test, that should be all right, but if it is a part or additional equipment necessary to do my OTR loads, then....
    Thanks

Everybody has to start somewhere. "OD" or overdrive is the ratio of the final drive gear on a transmission. Some transmissions the last gear is OD and some are not. The others are direct drive. Direct drive is geared lower and pulls better in hills. It's more efficient. Over drive lets you stretch it out a little faster. An overdive truck will have to drop a gear sooner on a grade. So if it has a check mark for overdive that's what the truck has.

If that makes no sense here is another example. Two trucks with the exact same tire size and rear ratio of say 3:55 both with 10 speeds. One has overdrive 10 speed the other has direct drive 10 speed. At 65mph the direct drive will turn at higher rpms just for example we will say 1500 rpms whereas the overdive truck will be turning 1400 rpms at 65mph.

Are you really sure youre ready to do this?

    Exactly!

If you don't understand something as straight forward as that...Maybe you need to drive a company truck for a while longer.

what check for od means is does the trans have overdrive in it anytime you split the gears with the button on the gearshift. 13 and 18 spd trans are your most common that have overdrive.

Actually the splitter on most new rto167 and up transmissions are under split with the top gear in the main being overdrive

The rest of the trucks specs are important to know if the rears are .2.67 to 1 you don't need or want an overdrive transmission on the other hand if you have 3.90 to 1 rears you will need Overdrive.
the check for overdrive box is kind of silly a simply overdrive Yes or no would make more sence

He should drive a 2 stick truck, man those are fun, either 5 and 4 or like the old macks low hi and reverse on one stick and 5 forward on the other, let a newbie figure that one out for the first time in a truck.
