Alabama is a better freight market.

TN has 10% sales tax and its only w2 wages thatre tax free. Self employment is taxed.

Nashville is great if you love traffic, transplants and fake country.

Anywhere in the Midwest. I live outside Indy and it’s very affordable low cost of living. It’s also the cross roads of America.

It’s not by accident that there are a gazillion trucking companies here.

Believe it or not. One of the lowest tax burden states is VA. The old lady and I have been keeping an eye out for properties and have done quite a bit of research on the following states. PA(home),WV, MD(west), TN (east), NC (west) and VA(west)
PA is about median of tax burden of which we are most familiar
WV has a lot of emissions exempt counties, low taxes, cheap land.
MD about on par with PA
    NC slightly lower overall taxes
TN a lot like WV but no state income taxes, except investments.
VA lower taxes across the board, about half in property taxes. Down side, they tax you on vehicles annually, but still end up cheaper than PA overall.

IMO choose a no-income-tax state, or maybe try to cross-reference that with a good freight lane. Sioux Falls, SD maybe? Right on a major east/west and north/south interstate route.

Jacksonville, FL maybe? Nicer winters down there.

Or just say screw it and live wherever it speaks to you. No right or wrong answer there.

VA hates trucks. Next to NY theyve been the state that screwed me most.
