what companies do not require uniforms?

Even when I was farming, I always wore the same type of clothing on a daily basis. I wore some military surplus green pants and grey t shirts on a daily basis along with work boots. The light colored shirts cleaned easily, were cheap to buy, and stayed fairly cool in summer. The pants stayed neat and washed easily.

Now, the company supplies the uniforms, and it's easy enough to wear. I either wear khaki or grey slacks and a shirt with the company logo, and the shirts are all made to food grade standards, meaning snaps rather than buttons and no pockets on the shirts.

And I always find that someone who comes in in any form of uniform seems to get better treatment than someone without. I would never base my employment on whether or not the company has a clothing policy. I guess that may be important to some, but that's why they only get paid the amount they do.

Companies that require you to wear uniforms will supply them and contribute to their upkeep. If you pass up a good job just because you would have to wear a uniform then you need to seriously find a good doctor to check you out, because you have a serious problem.
Whether you wear a uniform or not, it is important to be clean and neatly dressed. Appearances are very important to shippers and receivers alike. Your first impression will often times dictate as to how you are treated.

I have never had to wear a uniform as a driver. (except the army) Some places I worked required a button up shirt with a collar. Some required a shirt with a collar. Others it did not matter. I had a local gig that provided uniforms if you wanted them. They were blue jeans and a button up shirt. I remember years ago being in a truckstop and there were several Burlington drivers at a table. The uniforms did make them look professional from a public point of view, but to me as long as a driver dresses decent (even blue jeans and a tee-shirt) and showers on a regular basis that goes a long way for the trucker image. Get around one that showers about as much as they get home and it is pretty easy to see and smell why drivers can get a bad rep from the public.

I’ve never worked for a company that had a dress code so I’m assuming most don’t, unless you work for a lot of LTL companies or certain megas. Even at my LTL, linehaul drivers don’t have a dress code but peddle drivers do because they deal with customers all day while we just bump docks at our terminals overnight

Allowing me this opportunity to go on a rant. I dress for comfort. I have dressed this way for years. I don't find it comfortable to drive for hours wearing jeans or pants. I wear shorts and sandals when weather permits. I look like all the 4 wheelers in the travel centers, I doubt they mind.I think they are much more appalled by the driving of most truckers, not what they are wearing. I haul alot of used equipment and they leak fluids constantly. I'm not tossing a shirt because it's has a stain on it. If a company requires you to wear a certain type of clothing at all times because you represent them ,that's fine. However in my mind that means you are always "on duty " and should be paid accordingly. For those of you who think all drivers should be wearing jeans, shirts and boots to be a real driver, just remember there are drivers out there wearing suits who look down there noses at you. Why don't we stand on our good and courteous driving, instead of who's wearing what, like a bunch of schoolgirls.
