Holland Enterprises Inc. trucks are nice with Tripac APU, xm radio, refrigerator, satellite tv and from what drivers have said, good paychecks.

I use it everyday, twice a day, at home (I'm the only one that drinks coffee). Goes camping and backpacking with me. It's freaking awesome. Makes great coffee, easy peasy.

If it's the same holland I've seen running around Atlanta though...their drivers are hardly professionals.

You park in a truck stop from time to time right. I'll bet you can count on one hand the times you've seen a truck burn. Even less than you can say, for a fact, that it was the inverter that caused it. 9 years OTR and I've parked in a truck stop thousands of times and I've seen 2 trucks burn, just two. Once the truck was so inflamed I have no idea where it started and the other started in a trailer.

So this prevailing notion that somehow there is an epidemic of inverters burning trucks down is baffling since every driver I personally know uses one. Look to the truck beside you tonight, is there an inverter plugged into his outlet, probably. The vast vast majority of drivers use them and the vast vast majority of drivers will never have a truck burn from one of them. So there is no reason for companies to ban them. Firstly because it's impossible to enforce a ban on cigarette inverters. Two because the supposed dangers of them are way overstated.

I doubt it's the same company. The Holland with orange or orange & white colors run pretty ragged. They're Teamsters and always in a hurry. I used to work for a non-union division of their company, YRC Logistics and TNT Logistics, so I'm pretty familiar with their driving habits.

Yep. That's the ones I'm thinking of. White orange and blue.

    Good to know.

And exactly like I said at the beginning, I should have kept my mouth shut because I knew someone would come along with a "everybody does it". Why yes sir they do, and no I can't count on one hand the number of times I've seen a truck burn, it would take more than 2 over the past 27 years. In fact one of our own trucks right here burnt 3 months ago. Overloaded wiring was suspected by the fire department.

I'm glad your in the "everybody does it" camp. But FYI there are companies that have bans on power-port powered inverters.

I was simply stating the FACTS, the wiring in trucks powering the power-ports is not designed to handle the amperage drawn by anything larger than a 100w inverter. It's a fact supported by simple math.

So, plug it in, load it up, keep putting in bigger fuses till you find out just how many amps your wiring can handle. Just because someone makes it doesn't mean its a good idea to use it.

It's a fantastic idea to use something that makes your quality of life better on the road. The danger of cigarette inverters is so small as to be laughable. If they were as big of a problem as you say then I should be seeing trucks burn at least weekly. Maybe we are all just lucky. And was that overloaded wiring tied to an inverter? How do they know? Trucks have burned for numerous wiring problems that have nothing to do with inverters.

And I know there are companies that ban plug in inverters. I used to drive for one and proudly broke that rule every night.
