So this prevailing notion that somehow there is an epidemic of inverters burning trucks down is baffling since every driver I personally know uses one. Look to the truck beside you tonight, is there an inverter plugged into his outlet, probably. The vast vast majority of drivers use them and the vast vast majority of drivers will never have a truck burn from one of them. So there is no reason for companies to ban them. Firstly because it's impossible to enforce a ban on cigarette inverters. Two because the supposed dangers of them are way overstated.Vilhiem Thanks this. -

I'm glad your in the "everybody does it" camp. But FYI there are companies that have bans on power-port powered inverters.
I was simply stating the FACTS, the wiring in trucks powering the power-ports is not designed to handle the amperage drawn by anything larger than a 100w inverter. It's a fact supported by simple math.
So, plug it in, load it up, keep putting in bigger fuses till you find out just how many amps your wiring can handle. Just because someone makes it doesn't mean its a good idea to use it.KenworthGuyNH and Vilhiem Thank this. -
And I know there are companies that ban plug in inverters. I used to drive for one and proudly broke that rule every night.
